Hotel D'or Alexandra, Can Pastilla, Majorca
The hotel has had a refurb and upgrade during winter 11/12, opening just 3 weeks before I arrived. So obviously there are still lot's of finishing touches to be done and work is continuing, unobtrusively it has to be said.
My room, which was on the 6th floor, had been updated and was very pleasant, although the AC didn't work (just blowing air at room temperature). I reported it to reception twice and it was finally fixed after five of my seven nights! The room features some new LED lighting and while it looks excellent I found it difficult to read the paper or a book in the evening. It would have benefitted from an additional standard lamp perhaps. It was also missing a wall mirror in the bedroom, leaving just the mirror over the hand basin in the bathroom. Although giving them the benefit of the doubt, it may be one of the things yet to done.
I opted for half-board and so ate in the restaurant every evening. It was clean and well equipped and the staff were attentive and friendly (as were all the hotel staff). Gripes? Chips on the breakfast buffet were an unusual sight and scrambled eggs, usually a breakfast staple, were only featured twice while there were mountains of boiled eggs every morning. I did ask the duty chef for scrambled eggs twice and got them fried.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at the D'or Alexandra.
I should say that I spent 43 years in the airline business before I retired and in the 1980's part of my job was checking crew hotel standards.
