"We simply love the Dorchester hotel and have been staying here for many years. It is close to everything, nice restaurants, the waterfront, shops etc. The staff is super helpful, the room was very clean and the Top Notch restaurant is very good! We had the best chicken burger there and the service was amazing.
This hotel has atmosphere. The view on the harbour side is so lovely. You do have to be aware that float planes take off from the harbor so that side of the hotel can mean an earlier wake up if you don't sleep soundly however the night is fine.
They also have free parking which is great!
Highly recommend the Dorchester!"
"Corridors are in need of renovations but the rooms are very nice and up to date. Breakfast not bad for a continental. Good value for the money with close proximity to Nanaimo downtown."
"We had a lower suite ocean view. The view was good but of course, a higher unit would have a better view. I was very impressed with the decor. It was newly renovated and it showed. I loved the little touches from complimentary coffee in refillable jars, high end quality unisex refillable bath products, nice glassware (including wine glasses), clear instructions on how to use the murphy bed (which had nice linens and was much more comfortable than a fold out couch), easy access to our netflix account for the evenings when you are done with the beach. So quiet and on one of the most beautiful beaches on Vancouver Island. The staff were quick to respond to a few queries that I did have, and responded with solutions in a timely fashion and all with a professional but very friendly attitude. Check in and check out was easy. The only disappointment was the fabulous AC did not have an outlet vent in the bedroom. We asked for a fan which helped resolve the issue for us. A 10 out of 10 experience. I would definitely stay in one of these updated units again."
"I’d I hadn’t seen it online might not have stopped and stayed. The curb appeal is lacking but then you enter the main doors and it’s fantastic! Staff are helpful and friendly. Rooms are great. Clean, quiet and beds super comfortable. Daily complementary breakfast is wonderful. They keep the breakfast area fully stocked and refilled plus really clean. Would def recommend to friends and family. A hidden gem."
"Pros: Kids loved the outdoor pool and hot tub! The pool is slightly heated; not super warm but a good swimming temp. The kids loved getting colouring sheets and crayons on arrival too. Great location and very friendly front desk employees. Nice to be able to walk next door to Cedars for dinner, or grab a few munchies from the front desk in the evening. We enjoyed sitting on the huge deck in the evenings, having a BBQ, and walking down to the beach. We shall be back.
Minor cons: Some of the info in the emails etc. is probably a little outdated, e.g. all rooms do actually have aircon, and you can't order some things to the room for your arrival like sand toys. The kids found the sofa bed a little uncomfy (creaky) and aircon/fridge very noisy."
