You get what you pay for
You have to deal with bad english and bad maintenance of facilities. But the location and the price is great. You get what you pay for and we were very happy with it. Breakfast was great.

It was average. The room we had was really good, but the Wi-Fi was patchy. It was nice to have the free airport pick up and drop off. In another few years as development gets a little further, the food options and varied shopping will be better. Local people were really nice and so the overall stay was very positive.

Warning!
4 stars should be asterisks = 4 point warnings. I'm not the whiny type, so when I say bad I mean BAD! Seriously... The property is unsafe! All paths are tilted and slippery. Everything is rundown and repaired with rusty nails everywhere. Service wasn't just bad but staff is mean, rude and insulting. They have one gross restaurant. Broken glass around the pool... that screamed hepatitis! 1 good thing... A giant can of bug killer was provided in the room. If you really, really HAVE to stay on this overrated Island. Don't stay here.

Close to the beach.
The hotel seemed to be on the brink of bankruptcy. Many areas of the hotel were closed. The staff were ambivalent and several were neglectful in the restaurant (slow service to clean the tables and slow service to bring any food that has run out). Also, we had a room at the very front of the hotel overlooking the road which was noisy. The front driveway of the hotel needs work - the sidewalk is not yet finished.

Dirty hotel
Very disappointing, this is what happens when the manager does not do his job properly. Staff swept daily but didn't clean anything. Result was a dirty swimming pool and surrounds, grubby bedroom, paths all with caked in dirt. Whole place needed repainting and cleaning. Apart from the breakfast room, all pool bars, beach cafe, and other advertised areas were closed whilst we were there. Only good thing about this place was the beach. Do not stay here!

Disappointed
Was a great stay until I booked out and they over charged me. I booked one night and decided it was a decent place and wanted to stay 2 more nights. The girls at check in assured me that no need to book with hotel.com as they would honour the same rate I paid via hotels.com but instead would pay them direct. I was skeptical but she assured me over and over it would be the same. Then when I am short on time as I have to catch the plane, I go to checkout and the price is about $25 more per night then I paid through hotels.com. Note to self don't trust them. Ruined a good stay as other than that I was happy with the hotel...but at $25 more per night not so much!!!

An excellent resort!
The enviroment is excellent! We booked 4 units for our family reunion. Rooms are clean. The hotel welcomed each unit a tropical fruit basket on the first day. A surprise! The private beach is right behind the resort with walking distance. They provided bath towels and large chairs with unbrella. Breakfast is good! Service staffs are excellent. Many local restaurants located around, even a bakery shop where I bought a ready-to-eat bday cake for my sister, without pre-order. Moreover, the resort bought another bday cake for my sister when we got back after the dinner. (We gave it to the front staffs the following day). Can't complaint! Absolutely will stay here if we come back to Phu Quoc island.

Dated & basic but a good location
We were very disappointed with our stay at Sasco Blue Lagoon. The location, in town and on the beach, was very good. However that is where the plus points ended for us unfortunately. We found our room (sea view bungalow) very small, dated, smelling of mould/damp and the bed very uncomfortable. When ordering drinks at the beach bar we were greeted with grunts, incorrect drinks, more grunts and eventually the correct drinks. Certainly not the level of service we encountered elsewhere in Phu Quoc where we were greeted with smiles and a friendly welcome. If you're looking for cheap and cheerful, you'll enjoy your stay but we thought we were going to get a high end resort as had paid a lot and what we got was, unfortunately disappointing to the point we checked out after only 1 night.

Surprisingly excellent resort hotel
I read the many negative reviews about the facilities and staff. However, our experience was just the opposite. The location is on the beach and close to the main town on the island. There may be other hotels in that area that are nicer, but for the price ($75 U.S. per night), this was a real bargain. The rooms are in semi-private bungalows (four rooms in each unit). Our party of 6 had 3 rooms. Two of the rooms had been remodeled with marble floors and new drapes. All rooms had king-sized beds and nice bathrooms. The swimming pool is large and well-maintained, though the chlorine levels were a bit high. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, featuring a wide variety of traditional American foods (eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausage) and Vietnamese fare (noodles, fish, salted eggs, etc.). We had one dinner there and it was also excellent, though somewhat overpriced. The staff was very helpful. I went to the beach in the late afternoon and the towels were all gone. I asked a security guard if there were more towels and he immediately called out to someone to bring more towels. The only issue I had with the staff was they wanted to charge us twice for the beverages we used from the room refrigerator. When I showed them the receipt, they quickly apologized. They offer a free shuttle to the airport. We tried to book one of the hotel's taxis for a tour of the island, but they said it was a holiday (3 days before the actual holiday) and the prices would be double.

Tired hotel - but nice beach + pool
pretty average place - it's a tired resort that needs a refit, though the beach and pool area is great.

Nothing ground breaking here
Good hotel right on the beach. They didn't rip us off but to be careful with the bill, they charge tax and service charge but then the format of their invoice when you check out looks like they charge it twice. Beds are super comfy and make sure you get the free shuttle bus the hotel provide to and from the airport. Staff English is ok, they try to be helpful but I must admit reception staff are a bit cold. Like most Vietnamese hotels, breakfast is a non-event. Aside from the eggs station, the food is an attempt to copy international chain hotels with international dishes - it's not overly great and tends to rub out by 9.15am. Would stay again given everything on the island is expensive (compared to hotels on the main land)

Avoid room #176, it is a mosquito den
Hotel compound looks nice, large unused swimming pool, beach approach is nice, sunbeds, shades, mattresses (some very worn), towels are provided. Disturbing - a pavillion was built in the next hotel, noise from hammering, sawing, drilling, stinky smells of paint etc. Some backpackers just use the sunbeds (all for free), security does not interfere. Restaurant - breakfast buffet was good, lunch was horrible, bad food and generally overpriced, nobody ate there. First room was small but had no separate shower, we were moved to very big room (#176) with large shower and bathtub, next to the dump place of the old unused furniture etc. Always somebody from the staff walking by looking through the windows. Mosquitos, mosquitos, we could not get them all killed, every time there were about 5 waiting in the bathroom. Some of the nights we were bitten quite often.

Nice stay
I thought the rooms were nice but bathroom was a little off. There was something growing near the edges of the shower. Other then that the amenities were great like the pool and beach. The restaurant was good and the staff was attentive. The buffet in the morning was nice. They offer some western foods. My kids enjoyed the pool everyday we were there even though it rained they were still in it.
