"The hotel is lovely, in a traditional courtyard-style house. It is beside the north gate, just inside the ancient town, so the location is great. Alice was fantastic, collected us from the train station and gave us lots of tips on places to visit and eat. We had a great two-night stay, highly recommended!"

"Wonderful hotel set in an ancient mansion. Staff were helpful and friendly and focused on improving the guest experience. Wonderful breakfast whether you ordered Western or Chinese. We ate the special set menu dinner. Definitely the best restaurant in Pingyao. Staff had a proficient level of English which enabled us to have a better experience visiting the historical sights in the walled city. Our two night stay was a five star experience."

"Pleasant little hotel right in the middle of the old town. Rooms are in the courtyard behind and not afected by the bustling street out front. Staff are really nice and eager to please but be aware that no one speaks English, so if you dont know any Mandarin it will be a challenge. Being in the middle of a traffic free area is great, but it means you can't get a taxi to drop you at the door (and street numbering is very patchy). "My wife and I stayed at the Water Hotel for a few days in early January. The staff upgraded us to a larger room and was overall very helpful, including arranging a pickup at Taiyuan airport and return transportation to the airport. The morning breakfast is delivered to your room a few minutes after you order it. The Hotel is right in the old town and within steps of anything you want to see their. The itself was spacious, clean and with a comfortable bed."
