Basic accomodations, not a place for a fussy traveler.

My friend from work and I had a great time at the Getaway. the room was clean, the staff was nice and helpful if you had a problem. The pools were great and the beach was beautiful. the food was not high quality but it was edible. The hotel was pretty empty in October but overall it was nice safe place to stay.

Don't stay at the Getaway Club. It is the worst. Repeat don't go to this hotel!!

The reason we chose this hotel was because we stayed there four years ago when it was under different ownership. But things have changed dramatically since then. The first room we were given had a musty smell and mold growing on a lamp shade. The second room was only slightly better - there was no mold on the lamp shade. The carpet and furniture looked like it had not been cleaned since our last visit. The sheets were old, tattered and stained. You could actually see where the bed spread had been patched. The bottom of the bathroom door was completely rusted out. There were only two bath towels and they were so worn that you would not even use them to dry off your car. The air conditioning unit had only one setting that worked and that was maximum. The pools were filthy. The food was terrible. Imagine the worst meal ever served in a college dorm and it would still be better than what was served at our first dinner. There was mystery meat, rice, bread and salad. The next day a lot of people started to arrive. What I noticed is that they were young mexican college students or working class adults who were there for a weekend of drinking (its all inclusive) and partying. I guess the current owners have decided to cater to that crowd. Again, under no circumstances stay at this hotel!

Can't Wait To Go Back...

We had a blast at this hotel!!! We stayed for 9 days and here is my opinion. This hotel could use a little updating, paint would go a long way. The staff is wonderful and very friendly and very helpful. The activities guys are amazing and we had the best time going to the clubs with them in the night time. The food is very authentic Mexican food with not much of a variety, but what they have is good. They have 2 pools and they play music all day which is great. We loved the tours desk guy, he made great suggestions on daily activities and everything he suggested was great. We absolutely loved our trip and when we go back to Puerto Vallarta we will stay at the getaway!!!

Not impressed

The front desk were not friendly and never smiled. Food did not look appealing. Beach was always a mess. I was afraid to walk around barefooted out at the pool. We saw a condom on the floor BY THE POOL! Half the people looked like they did not feel like working. I wondered if they actually did. The guy who goes and gets the taxi looked like he didn't want to get the taxi for us. I think the only friends person I met there was the bartender in the lobby. The expedia person was never at the desk, and the guy who did the excursion was so quick to sell us the trip to see the waterfalls when we get there the waterfall is dried up because they were in a drought. Of course I would suggest this to someone way younger than me. No rules and they don't care what you do.

Better then they say

We just got back from the hotel on Tuesday, June 12. We really had a fantastic time. We loved the view of the ocean and thought the grounds were truly well kept. We were a little worried about some of the reviews, but we went to Jamaica last year so know what it is like to travel outside of the US, and we felt like this was a much better resort. The food wasn't horrible, but we did enjoy some restraunts out. I think if you know what it is like to travel outside of the US you will enjoy this resort. The only complaint I have is the bed is rock hard, literally, we bought an air matress at Wal-Mart. Also, not all rooms have a balcony. Rather then that it was totally central and beautiful. Have fun!

I miss it already,,,

To be honest, I was scared after I booked my hotel since all the reviews were bad and some even got sick. I went to the Getaway with a friend the last week of May and we had the time of our lifes. Yes, the hotel does need some work, but you can't notice it when your drinking the whole day. The staff was super friendly and and urged you to try out new acitvities everyday. The check in guy is kind of rude, however keep joking with him and he will smile eventually. My favorite activity was tequila volleyball (the red one is the best) and beach volleyball. The best part of the hotel was the rooms. We were scared since it was our first time in Puerto Vallarta that some stuff might be missing once we got back, but none of that happened. The room was cleaned daily in the morning after breakfast. The hotel does offer an itailian restuarant, but it is only open on Mondays and Wednesdays. You have to make reservations in order to eat. The food was not horrible, but you did get tired of eating it everyday. Go to the malecon and there will be plenty of resturants to enjoy. There are plenty of people you meet and going out at night is the best since everyone is out at the malecon. They offer packages for night clubs from the hotel if you want to go with them. I will go back for sure...

Definately for the younger crowd

My friend and I took a trip here from NJ after our graduation. Great for the younger crowd,or those who are very active. They offer lots of activities, 2 pools, beach vollyball, and activities and trips outside the hotel. I recommend spending the extra money on the balcony rooms, other rooms are pretty small. Looks like it hasn't been updated in years, but we weren't there for looks. We went for the all-inclusive cheap price. We were told that Jan.-March is more of an American crowd, we were surrounded by locals when we went in late-May.

You MUST stay here if you are looking for a good time.

My husband and I read all the reviews looking for the best deal and a place were we would have a great time we were a lil unsure at first about this hotel but now we are glad we picked this one the room is for sleeping changing and shower and well you know it was a hotel room bed tv bathroom just like any normal hotel room we have stayed in the staff was great the food was good fresh friut at every meal a good mix of everything the bar is not cheap on drinks the one pool was quiet the other is the hot spot very active during the day good mix of music this hotel lets you just be yourself and relax. I did try the topless thing it actually was not that bad. there were alot of beautiful women for my husband and I to look at, and alot of beautiful men for me to look at. THE GOOD: we wake up go eat breakfast while sitting and looking out at the ocean, go sit by the pool enjoy a drink, start playing some off the games, eat lunch, go to the room enjoy ourselfs, sit by the pool relax, eat dinner, go and actually put some cloths on, make our way down to the lobby to see what events they have going on there for the night or what clubs the staff is going to that night, at somepoint make it back to the room enjoy ourselfs, sleep, wake up and do something like that the next day. THE BAD: yes the place could use a fresh coat of paint. the worst thing that happened to us was that we had to leave we LOVED our stay

decent for price

If you don't want to spend big bucks on a fancy hotel, but rather just have a place to stay when you're not busy doing all your vacation activities, then this is a good place to stay. Having stayed at all-inclusive resorts before, I expected the food and drinks to be better, but it wasn't terrible either. Very nice pool and beach area, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier.

The hotel was perfect for young adults looking to party and have a great time in Mexico. The staff was friendly and the food was great, alcohol was muy mal. Overall I wouldnt stay anywhere else if I was a single male or female looking to party.

Some reviews go toooo far! This place is great!!

I must say I was kind of scared to stay at this hotel after I read all those bad reviews. This place is not that bad!! We stayed at the Getaway and had a blast! The hotel was old but kept well. There was always someone cleaning or gardening. The service is great. They cleaned our room every day (if you tip they make swans and shells out of towels). They went out of their way to come up and turn on the lights in our room at 4am after we blew the socket :). None of our things got stolen at any time. The beds were hard, but it did wonders to my nursing back! Staff is super nice and works hard for the tips. The pool is great and there is music only plays till 5pm. Activity guys try so hard to get you involved in everything. Tequila volleyball was a blast and so were the salsa lessons. Besides that there are aquatics, beach volleyball and water polo. The food at the hotel is limited but not bad even for a picky eater. We ate tons at the hotel, drank their water, ate their salads and fruit and we did not get sick! This alone should add a star to their rating since my boyfriend and I have stayed at 4-5 star resorts and gotten violently ill. We met lots of cool people and had tons of fun. The weather was great and the drinks were unlimited, what else could you ask for?!!! I think this place is great for anyone 30 or under or anyone who feels that young at heart. However, I think that everyone can have enjoy this hotel. The price is super cheap and it is a totally great deal!!

A great dissappointment

We stayed at the Getaway in 2001 and could not say enough good things about it. We were looking so forward to this stay in 2007, and were so dissappointed in the change. The food was very bad which caused us to only have 4 meals on the premise. The grounds were a complete mess. There were cups and blue plastic glasses all over and it looked as if there was no attempt to clean up after each day.I would not recomend this hotel to anyone, don't be fooled by the price.

Think twice about the Goaway Club

The saying goes, "You get what you pay for" but I have been to other all inclusive resorts for the same price and the accommodations were far better than Getaway. Remember, pictures can make something look nicer than it is! If you can afford a little more money I would suggest you go somewhere else. The employees didn't seem to care about cleaning up the grounds-which are actually beautiful-(I saw the same straw on the lawn for 3 days before it was picked up)because there was always trash all over. The multi-million dollar renovation mentioned on their website isn't true. I even asked the front desk man and he said, "No." The place needs a major face lift and a coat of paint would be a great beginning. Very run down. The food was edible-lots of fresh fruit and veggies. We did not have a phone in our room (3 women mind you) and when we asked the front desk employee he said, "Yes, some rooms have phones and others don't!" VERY VERY loud at night. Seems like a getaway for mexicans. Yes, the beds are hard. Our cleaning lady came everyday and did a great job. She even changed our sheets during the week which surprised us. Our room did grow on us during the week though. My friends and I joked that it was called the Getaway because you can't wait to getaway from it! I would not recommend this resort to anyone!

Great value

If you are whiney or pampered, or if you cringe at the prospect of having to use the stairs when the elevator breaks (heaven forbid), then this not the place for you. If, on the other hand you can appreciate the "Mexican-ness" of this all-inclusive hotel, you will really enjoy your stay here. The beds are a bit on the hard side (but at least they're flat and in good condition), and the booze they pour is hard-core plain wrap, but the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the rooms are clean, and the property is generally well cared for. The buffet could have had a bit better variety, but the food was plentiful and good. A day at poolside was a pleasure as long as you staked out a lounge chair in the morning. The location is excellent as there is a bank with 3 ATM's across the street and downtown Vallarta just a hop and a skip to the south. A great value if you are OK with things a little different than "back at home."

Hotel has seen better days but location is good

Cheap and close to downtown. We arrived after sundown and the hotel was operating on virtually no lighting (to save energy?). 3 places to eat: 1) snack bar w/ very ltd menu 2)an okay restaurant that you were lmtd to eating at once during the week, and 3) buffet with blah food/sparce choices. The 3 bars were ok. The usual Sol beer, etc. Room was pretty good: had carpeting, central air, and looked like the photos on this site. We did not have hot water for a couple of days but this was fixed. Maid service was very good. They made swans out of the towels and made neat arrangements with the pillows. Entertainment was rather bland, but we showed up 2 weeks after spring break time and some performers were on vacation. The chairs at poolside were old/worn. Pools were fine. This hotel is probably a really crazy fun place during spring break. Noticed that the hotel was getting very run down: railings on elevator broken, buildings could use some paint, weight room looks like it belongs in the 80's, etc. Not the nicest hotel, but it provided a place to stay at a reasonable cost. The all inclusive options is nice in case you don't care to go out for some reason, but is very ltd. You are walking distance to a convenience store and there is a grocery store downtown. We will pay the extra $ and stay elsewhere next year.

You get what you pay for

I guess for what we paid, it was ok. The guys at the front desk were not very helpful, it seemed like they were trying to pull some shady-ness. The food was ok, it seemed like they re-used food and the alcohol was watered down. But, it was decent for young travelers like us.

Cheap is not always good

I felt mad at myself after staying the first night at this hotel. It was really cheap but of course also really bad. Elevators smelled as well as rooms. The food was inedible. To make a long story short, if you are planning to go with a bunch of fellows and you are a broke student then go for it. Otherwise, please but please look for something else. I was meeting a girl from Guadalajara there and I cannot describe how embarrassed I was. We moved after the first night to another hotel with the all inclusive plan which was a lot but a lot better. Definitely, the move to other hotel was worth it even though was more expensive.

Worst hotel in pv

My wife & I were in pv march28-april04 and have been there over 10 times in the past years. This was by far the most run-down hotel we have stayed in. This hotel is more of a 1 star hotel than a 2+. I couldn't understand why someone would let a beachfront property run-down like this. The lobby furniture was dirty & stained, the elevator was filthy, sewer was backing up on the floor at the lobby bar,the buffet bar was cold and the lights over the food were either flickering on & off or were broke. The hall we entered our room from had 4 out of every 5 lights burnt out making it hard to see. Around the pool there is only 3 umbrellas to sit under if you can't take the direct sun. This would be 3 more than they have on the beach. Overall I would recommend you stay at other hotels nearby that meet the standards they claim.

Don't Expect Too Much

I am really not a picky person at all. I can drink and eat anything in front of me until I went to the Getaway Club (breakfast was ok). I am a 26 year old person that was looking to have fun with my new wife. We are the party type of people. After the first day of eating and drinking at the Getaway, we were both sick, and it wasn't from drinking too much. We were both unable to drink any more of the booze or eat any more of the food on the buffet. It has been a week since we were there, and we are still having problems. The beach is ok, and the people that were working there were great! They did a good job. I would recommend spending extra money to go somewhere else so you will get good food an booze. If you go there, make sure to only drink beer and not the booze.

In need of serious repair and updating, would not go back to this Hotel

Hotel was not only completely out dated, it was in bad condition. New paint, tile, awnings, beach chairs, cups (cracked), and plates (chiped) needed. Food was barely edible (I love Mexican food). Beds were as hard as the floor, drinks came in handy for that problem. Thanks to the drinks, bar, beach, friends, and sun we had a good time.
