When I arrived at the hotel and presented my credit card, I was told that the credit card machine was broken and that I would have to pay cash instead. They were perfectly willing to turn me away and let me wander around the dirt roads around the hotel looking for any other hotel that might be willing to take me in at the last minute without a reservation. My only other option was to walk three blocks away to an ATM machine and then walk back to the hotel with enough cash to pay for the stay.
When I got to the room after that, I noticed that it smelled like moth balls, and that all three fixtures in the bathroom were leaking, so the floor was constantly wet on three sides and there was visible mold on the wall of the shower. There was no toilet paper or Kleenex in the room, and the WIFI was so slow that even my Google Calendar would not load.
