The hotel has a great location and the rooms are all slightly quirky and different as well as spacious, light and airy with great bathrooms.
The only issue for us is that there isn't a lift so we had to lug our bags up and down 3 flights of stairs as there isn't anyone else to help. The only staff at the hotel being those working in the cafe downstairs. Who were helpful and friendly but not around to help with bags. The breakfast in the cafe was delicious but we didn't eat anything else there.

Everything is broken
This is a supposed four star hotel. The internet service is not usable, it crashes about once every two minutes and requires a relogin. The television service is broken as someone stole their equipment and they chose not to replace it. This hotel is not suitable for business, it even a casual traveler at the high price they charge.
A small hotel with a small number of rooms and a small restaurant. The location is perfect — close to the Danube and the historic town. The room was spacious (generous), clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I did not try the breakfast.
Sehr gut gelegen.
Gutes Zimmer, individuelle Einrichtung, sehr nettes Ambiente.
The hotel was clean and well located.
However, the discomfort was pretty high since there was no air-conditioning, just a fan. When I reached the room there were 28 degrees. The room was equipped with a useless temperature control but no ventilation system.
Netter Empfang vom Café Mitarbeiter Barbarossa. Frühstück á la Card. Reichhaltige Auswahl. Freundlicher Service.
Also: völlig in Ordnung!
This is a set of rooms on 3 floors above a cafe, open during the day only. The rooms are well appointed, modern and very clean. Not a hotel though, no elevator, no bar, no reception after 7pm and strange breakfast arrangements. So if you just want a very nice room it’s great, if you want a hotel go elsewhere.

Great location, but not for business travelers
We selected this hotel for the location – which is fantastic – and wifi – which was unusable 90% of the time.
This is more a hostel than a hotel, so be prepared: there is no refrigerator, tea kettle or coffee maker, the bed was lumpy and over-soft with anemic pillows that provided no support (though we appreciated they provided extra when requested), we were prepared for noise as soon as we saw the complementary earplugs provided and it was very loud each night (the corner plaza provides prime skateboarding and public drinking territory), and they never replaced the towels.
The neighborhood and location are terrific: right next to the river, easy access for walks or jogs, and to restaurants in the town center as well as a short walk to our favorite haunt, the Wurstkuchl (an 800-year old brat house on the river). If you don't need the internet and don't care to feed yourself breakfast or coffee, the location alone makes this a worthy place to stay.

No Air Condition - too much noise
The Hotel VIII is located by one of the heavily used streets in Regensburg. As the hotel doesn't offer air condition, you have to open the windows - and then you can't sleep because of the noise from traffic and people staying outside. The room was ok, clean and recently renovated,
I could recommend the hotel during wintertime, when the temperature is ok without opening the windows during the night, but not in summer, when the teperature gets high.
We drove into Regensburg on, unbeknownst to us, the town festival day. Everybody was out partying which made reaching the hotel awkward due to closed off streets and multitudes of people. We managed to park, walk to the hotel and check-in, return our rental car, find a taxi ( by sheer good luck on a Sunday afternoon in a quiet part of town) and get back to Hotel VIII. After all that on a hot day our spacious, clean, corner room was a delight. The hotel is very central which made joining the happy throngs outside easy and also just as easy to escape when we'd had enough.
Because it was so hot we had our windows wide open but this also let in the street noise. A main thoroughfare is very close ( German emergency vehicles and police have very loud sirens) and in the morning the regular traffic noise was considerable. In cooler weather when windows are shut this wouldn't be a problem. During our stay a building was under construction across the road but this, of course, isn't permanent.
We really enjoyed our stay but there are a couple of things to keep in mind: There is no lift and the stairs are relatively narrow, breakfast is not included but the café on the ground floor is good. Reception and the café are the same place with very friendly and helpful staff in attendance.
