This place was exactly what we needed. We stayed for about five nights, spending most of our time on road trips and visiting lagoons, so we didn’t need anything overly luxurious for our home base. Despite having shared showers and bathrooms, everything was consistently very clean.
Interestingly, I never saw a staff member during our stay, yet the property was clearly well maintained. The showers were always available when we needed them, with no waiting.
The location was also a big plus—many key parts of Reykjavík were just a short walk from the front door. I’d definitely stay here again. 10/10. Also, a lot of close by parking that you can finagle overnight with good timing :)
Thanks for having us!! Hope to come back soon!!
The room was clean, albeit a bit small. The walls are practically paper thin so bring a pair of noise cancelling headphones. Despite the noise, it is a perfectly nice place to stay and relatively inexpensive, as well as being in a great location. If you are on a budget, then it is worth staying here.
Very clean and quit guesthouse in the center of everything. Easy to find and easy check in instructions

Now called Old Town and not Kastali, I found the hostel to be in a great location, quiet despite the being well occupied, the rooms fine, and the bathrooms kept clean the entire time I was there. Pretty nice, actually.
Amazing location! Clean and very secure. Would happily stay here again

I asked for an early check in option and was told it wasn’t possible (no problem there) but the confirmation email said i could leave my luggage there until my check in time. I never received any codes for front door or luggage room, on the day of my check in I got to the building and couldn’t get in, so I stayed out in the rain until another guest was leaving and I took the change to get in the building. Coffee machine wasn’t working, I was wet and couldn’t get in the luggage room to drop my bags (i was still early for my check in), so even if I wanted to leave I wasn’t able to get back inside since I still had no codes. Usually all the other hotels I have been to send out the front door code at least 12 hrs before check in.
I saw one of the staff persons and asked her for the luggage room code, after showing proof I was staying there, and they were very helpful, even though I was trying to chat via costumer service with the facility I was getting no replies. Was able to drop my bags and go out to eat something, that’s when I got and email with all the codes, including my room #. When I got to my room it was so dusty, that it was obvious nobody stayed there that morning, so the courtesy (or even if they wanted to charge me a fee for an early check in) was denied without a reasonable reason. There were also what it looked like sauce stains on the floor, I immediately started to look for a different place to stay and asked if I could change the length of my stay n they said no
Staff were very helpful for check in, check out and luggage storage. The room was very clean and the beds comfortable and warm. Super close to everything
Great place to stay in Reykjavik if you’re traveling on a budget. Basic room, but if you’re only there to sleep like I was, it’s enough. Shared bathroom but very spacious and clean. Excellent location in the old town, the main things to do/see are in a 15 minute walk radius.
I stayed a few nights in this place, close to everything, Bus stop 1 is on the back of the hotel, centric, quiet area, restaurants not too far, the only bad thing is the room that is small and if you stay single room you have to take your luggage to last floor
I had a great stay at Kastali Guesthouse. The room was so sweet and beautiful, the bathrooms where always nice and clean. Walking distance to the airwaves festival. Was amazing. And I’ll be coming back.
We enjoyed our stay, our room was clean, and it was in a great spot to explore the city. There is no parking, so we paid for parking on the street.

Clean room for 4 adults, nothing special, but we were able to check in 1 hour early. Parking lots are close by - we had no problems with parking. Helpful staff. It’s a busy place but everything went smoothly. Fabulous location in the heart of a Reykjavík.
My first time staying in a hostel. Never once had an issue with shower or bathroom use. I also realized that a large room is pointless when you only need it for sleeping. It was clean, comfy, and in the city centre. Perfect location for restaurants and nightlife. Bus stop right around the corner was convenient too.
Don’t expect too much. You’ll get a bed and a shower, no frills. Good price. Excellent location. They provide you with a towel. The shared showers and bathrooms are clean and never busy. I love that my room had its own sink with hot water, it was very practical. Good wifi.
