The staff was very respectful, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and patient. There was a language barrier, so I could not use the phone in my room. The front desk staff used a translation service on their cell phones to assist me. They even assisted me with one issue that had nothing to do with the hotel. They were available to me every day for assistance. I felt I was calling on them too often, but they insisted on helping me. All the other staff was also excellent...room cleaners, restaurant, front door, etc.

Customer service is terrible. Paid for dinner at the hotel and could not get service. 5 tables in the entire restaurant, 3-4 servers working , a bus boy and a bartender. Had to walk around and find a server to get drinks. This is a really low end buffet and even with it being a buffet the people were more worried about being on their phones and talking among themselves. Tried to change currency at the dsk and they charged a really high fee. It was about 12%. Room was clean but not very nice. We stayed at 3 Vila Gale hotels on this trip and they all charged differently, one added a 10% addition “service fee” at checkout. They said it was to recoup the 10% Expedia charged them for making the booking. Avoid Vile Gale properties!

Place is old and sorely in the need of renovation! The toilet back up and was full of fecal matter and we had to move to another room. The other room looks like it had not been renovated for 40 years. They had rugs on the floor that were dirty and smelled like feet. Nobody! Not a single staff member could speak anything other than Portuguese! The only good thing was the breakfast, but it was overcrowded!

This hotel is old. The staff did not speak any english so we had to translate everything. The room had no view and that was one of the reasons we chose the hotel. The food was not great. They did not accommodate a request to change rooms. The room had a smell to it that we had to endure during the stay. I do not recommend this hotel if you want to have a great experience in Salvador.
