"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"I would highly recommend this location to any one coming to the Mt Fuji area. Checking in was a breeze. On the roof is a footpath that easy seats 10 and has an awesome view of Mt Fuji! The roof is open 24 hrs. The reception area is open 24 hrs and has free unlimited drinks including happy hour 3:30pm till 10:30pm. It was great to be able to get tea or soft drinks around the clock s d not have to leave or spend a fortune. I would definitely stay here again!!"

"So the few things I did not like where the bed and pillows were very uncomfortable, the onsen water was hot enough to burn me (the rock onsen at the bottom) and the pool closed SOOOO early that we didn’t get to experience it at all. I paid a lot of money for that hotel and then didn’t even get to experience the pool. But the staff was very accommodating and made great efforts to speak English to us. "

"Our booking dates were June 24-25. One night. First off the experience was excellent. We pre-booked the private onsen room and was quite ample for a family of 4. Note private onsen room is an additional charge if 3300 yen. Reservation was made prior to our arrival. Everyone in our party wore bathing suits during the 1 hour of use. "This was our most interesting stay in Japan, so if you’re quirky, read on! Atami Kinjokan embodied everything we found fascinating about the town itself - it’s aged, grand and like walking through the hallways of a decadent yesteryear. "The staff are so nice and helpful. There is private onsen in room and restaurant just at the corner. In room drinks for free and spacious, perfect location for recharge and away from city. The Shizenji and bamboo forest path are just 10 mins walk as well. Highly recommended and will come back again definitely! "

"This Ryokan was amazing. The staff were welcoming and gracious. The rooms are huge and traditional japanese style with futons and tatami mats. Each room had its own separate hot spring bath as well as separate men's and women's shared baths. The food was delicious and filling. It is located in a great small town nestled in a mountain valley. A quiet respite from the big city. Would definitely stay again! "

"A no-frills, clean place to stay right by the train and bus station, conveninet to get to all parts of gotemba. We had a room with a view of Mount Fuji from the room, was so great to see how much the lights on the mountain changes in minutes. The berakfast buffet was simple but great, had things for both japanese breakfast cravers and for the continental breakfasat lovers (my son and his friend). Its a chain and for the ease and convenience, I will consider staying at their other locales when trraveling."

"Grand old place in need of a big clean, but absolutely phenomenal experience. The staff were fantastic; friendly and helpful. The dining room and food stations were unbelievable. A pianist was playing during dinner. It was amazing. Nice hot Onsen too. One was outside overlooking the ocean. Very special. I loved that I could have the window open. The room was so spacious and the view was incredible."

Welcoming and fun with great onsen

"Not a new hotel, but very clean and welcoming. Loved the onsen with views of Mt Fuji (didn't get to see it due to poor weather!), the free nightly ramen (delicious!), massage chairs and fre ice creams from 4pm in summer. Very close to the train station but you couldn't hear it. Room was very spacious compared to the APA hotels I'd previously stayed at. Didn't get coffee supplies in the room, but there was a free coffee machine in the foyer in the afternoon. Washing machine wre free, you just have to pay for the dryer. Didn't try the restaurant for breakfast but there are good restaurants for dinner near the hotel and the train station, a mere 5 minutes walk. "
