The property is in a great location. It is close to UMass and Amherst Center. I found the man at the front desk to be nice and helpful. Unfortunately, our room was extremely warm and the AC did not seem to work. The toilet would also run for about 20 minutes after we flushed it. I think the place could use some updating, but it is otherwise good!

The University Lodge was a great value for its price. Conveniently located . Short walk to town and campus. The room was very clean . Heating system worked well and water pressure in the shower was great. Friendly and helpful staff. Although the property is a bit dated , it seemed very clean and safe.

Good price but more like motel

Good price but pictures are misleading. They look like any regular hotel but when you get in, the room and bathroom need improvements. The ceiling paint was hanging off and the rug smelled like someone smoked and/or brought their dog. Good price and location for students and people with a low budget. My door was jammed so the front desk guy cleared dust out of the door a slot and it worked. I was worried that I’d come back to my room after class and not be able to get in. Again, good price. More like a motel. I just realized I needed something better. Front desk guy was nice.

We got two rooms, Room 10 had great heat, a humidifier and a bottle opener on the bathroom wall. Room 8 heat was not working as well. The ice machine was not working due to the cold weather which was a bummer but the rooms were cleaner and larger than we expected. I would stay there for a quick visit as the prices are really affordable.

Long Winters Nap

Arrived on an icy, cold evening - and got into a cozy, warm room right away. All worked perfectly and the night was quiet and ideal to settle down for a long winter's nap. Thanks !

Functional bargain

Basically it was fine. This is no fault but reflects the fact that it is an traditional no frills motel. It is clean but a little tired. There is a fridge and microwave, the staff is more than pleasant. It is absolutely a "value for money" place. The location is excellent if you want to be able to walk into amherst.

We actually did not get to stay at the university lodge. After booking months in advance of family weekend at UMASS, we were called a few days before to be told they didn’t have a room for us but that they were going to move us to their other hotel The Howard Johnson. Upon check in and my usual inspection of hotel rooms I discovered what appeared to be a giant mold spot on one mattress and what appeared to be blood spots all along the seam of the other...no thank you! Checked out, asked for a refund and then drove the 2.5 hours home after the hockey game.

All good things come to an end

I’ve stayed here once every fall for the last six or seven years, and I’ve always found it ideal. Unfortunately, though, they’ve recently decided to rent all of the second floor rooms as university housing to students. This means you can only get a ground-floor room, and the chances are very high that the students in the apartment above you will be if not noisy, then stomping through the creaky floorboards. Between that and the fact that the carpeting is showing it’s decades-old age, I have a feeling this was my last stay at university lodge. Hopefully they will consider taking the profits from the student housing deal, and use them to refurbish the very outdated and worn decor, and restore the lodge to the decent hotel it once was.

This inn has a great location but for the price it is very shabby, run down and disappointing. This place needs a makeover urgently - cleaner carpeting, new bed covers, and a paint job. It was relatively clean considering it’s shabbiness which makes it livable. But for $350 for two nights this place should be of higher standing. Would love to see this place w a makeover but sadly I will not recommend until it happens. The staff at front desk was pleasant- another saving feature.
