We were disappointed with our stay at the Buckhorn Inn. I had called the owner in the morning to let them know of our time of arrival and nobody was there to unlock the door for us. After waiting for twenty minutes we drove to the next restaurant to call them, since there is no cell phone reception at the Inn. Lucky for us, the owner happened to have dinner there but she barely apologized.
Decor Is also extremely outdated and the breakfast was very mediocre as well. The Inn is currently for sale and it shows that the owners do not put their excitement, love and care into the running of the Inn. I would never go back there.
We were expecting an old stage coach stop. The site is for sale. Its about 10 miles outside of town. If youre arriving in the evening then eat before you arrive since theres no restaurant in the immediate vicinity.
loved relaxing on the upstairs porch with a glass of virgina wine.
The owners of the b&b made us feel right at home .We stayed in the Stonewall Jackson suite with a privare bath, great four poster bed, private door to the upstairs balcony plus our room and the complete b&b was very clean.Your breakfast is cooked fresh from a menu with many itens and is served at the time you choose,We have stayed at many b&b's this is one of the best.
We've stayed here several times and have always enjoyed it. The innkeepers clearly aspire to make their guests feel at home, and for us, they've always achieved that goal. The rooms are comfortable and breakfast is outstanding.
The house itself is beautiful and our room was spacious, comfortable and private. Breakfast was great, no comparison to what you get in a regular motel. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the front porch, very relaxing place. Sylvia was very helpful, friendly host and excellent cook. Worth the visit and stay.
We spent a wonderful, restful night in the Buckhorn Inn and were served a delicious breakfast the next day. Everything we needed was provided and we really enjoyed our time in this historic place. We would highly recommend it to other travelers.
Rooms have been updated. Owners state they sent updated pictures to hotels.com but that hotels.com has not posted them. It would have been ideal to have correct pictures of rooms when booking.
This was a delightful experience and well worth travelling a little off-route. Sylvia was exceptional in customer service and friendliness. We enjoyed her sharing her knowledge of the history, which is why we chose the location, but any expectation was truly exceeded. Everything added so much to our 'historical tour' including Gettysburg, Boston, NYC, Niagra and DC. We could not recommend more the total experience: luxury, cleanliness, welcome, breakfast and general fellowship. It was truly a pleasure and addition to our goal of the trip. I wish we were close to take advantage of the professionalism, intimacy and historical quaintness, we know their catering would surely provide for something special...
Thank you, Sylvia and Garlan!
p.s. I only rated condition less than excellent, because Sylvia says Garlan wants it to be perfect, but is having trouble finding some of the tin rosettes for the ceiling to match the originals perfectly - which I would never have noticed!
I sent my wife and a few of her friends to the maple festival and a night at the Buckhorn inn. They all loved the inn and want to go back again next year.
My wife and I stayed in the Hummingbird Room on Labor Day weekend. The Inn is located conveniently only 10-15 minutes from Staunton, and within walking distance of several hiking trails. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the porch access from our room, and had a very nice evening reading together on the rocking chairs outside. In the morning, we had a delicious, homemade breakfast that was the perfect start to the day. We'll definitely be back!
This was my second stay at the Buckhorn. I was in the area for a bike event last year and was late registering. As a result, the Buckhorn became my place to stay. It was a 40 minute drive to the event start so a little inconvenient in that way. However, the owners were very nice, helpful, and took good care of me. I liked it so much I chose to stay there this year for the same event despite the longer drive. Although the owners were away this year, their substitute inkeeper was just as friendly and just as helpful as I recall from last year. Breakfast was at a time I requested rather than a fixed schedule to allow me to get to the event on time. (The Buckhorn provides breakfast but not lunch or dinner service.) The Buckhorn is a historical, older building but was clean and well maintained throughout. Overall I would recommend the Buckhorn if you are staying in the area. My experience in two different stays was consistently very good.
The review I'd read said the Buckhorn Inn was basic accommodations. I don't know what other people expect, but the place is a historical goldmine. It is extremely well kept with friendly hosts and every amenity you could need, such as a fridge full of cold water bottles and a full breakfast ordered to your liking. The food was amazingly delicious, with fresh fruit provided for all. The rooms are large and nicely decorated. Very comfortable. If you stay there, you are clearly there to enjoy the area so you know you are out in the country. The countryside is gorgeous with rolling hills and the mountains in the background. I highly recommend this inn.
We truly enjoyed our stay here. The family was very accommodating and the rooms we clean and comfortable. The breakfast was absolutely delicious (they even made an adorable truck pancake for our son). Would definitely stay here again if in the area.
