Beautiful building, but be hard to find. The poor young man on check in came out in the pouring rain to find me after my third attempt phoning up for directions. He was a real hero that evening. Unusual for a hotel, you have to be checked in by 8 or there's a £25 penalty.
If you're a nervous traveller (I'm not, but know a few), being behind a high wall and locked gates will be comforting. Beautiful village to walk around.
Downside is being next to the spectacular church and churchyard. The bells sound all night.
There are no lifts and disabled access is likely to be difficult.
The absolute worst part, and what guaranteed i had absolutely no sleep (which I didn't need the night before starting my new job) was the heat in the room. When I got in the heating was on full, with the window open. I couldn't get the temperature down. It was 24 degrees in the room, which isn't even a healthy temperature for sleeping in. The church bells made opening the window a poor option. It was one of the most uncomfortable nights I can remember. Shame really, as there is so much going for it.
