Paradores Del Castillo
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed for a couple of nights at Paradores. The place is well maintained considering its age. Some parts of the house are over a hundred years old. Woodworking professionals will appreciate the hardwood floors held together not by nails but of wood pegs. They are uneven at certain parts of the Spanish era home. But that is part of the charm. Just make sure you wear shoes with good traction as the flight of stairs can be quite slippery due to the wood preservatives used. The infinity pool is clean and seem to run warm water. There are multiple places to eat nearby. All of them run by the hotel. We only had breakfast at Cusina de Jardin. They serve Filipino and American breakfast. The quality of the food is okay. Be warned, the coffee they serve is locally known as 'barako' and it is strong. You will need lots of creamer if you are not used to it. The garden surrounding the property is well maintained. There are lots of areas for taking selfies. Make sure to take advantage of the free drink coupon inside the welcome envelope after you check in. Also ask help for getting transportation. Hotel front desk provides a map of major landmarks to visit. When you get lost, just flag a tricycle and tell the driver to take you to 'zone 14 paradores'. They will know how to get you back to the hotel. Note that Grab and other ride sharing services cannot operate around the area. Wear comfortable shoes for walking or brave the local transportation."
