"Dinner can be provided. We had pizza and pasta and both were excellent. Host is very nice and gave us a nice introduction. Highly recommend this property. "

"The nearest dining place is 30mins drive and there's nothing to eat in the hotel tho there's a restaurant in the hotel but it's not open. We have to clear our own trash. Staff do not speak english.bed is hard and pillow to thin and soft."

"The house itself is spacious and cozy. The garden is a pretty one and invites for relaxing hours in the sun. We got a tour through the facilities by the extremly kind host! I definitely recommend staying here."

Wonderful stay. Lovely kaiseki dinner. The staff were super attentive and friendly. The hot spings were clean and very relaxing after a long day walking and driving. Oh and the view from the room in the morning across the valley was stunning

The 'staff' (monks) were excellent, from start to finish, and really added to the experience. They were attentive, warm, and friendly. The room had a typical ryokan layout and was comfortable. The (vegan) food was excellently presented, plentiful, and tasted good in the main. My only gripe is the beanbag style pillows which were pretty solid and tough to sleep on. As it was so warm I rolled up the duvet and used that as a pillow instead which meant I slept well. The opportunity to attend morning...

Our stay in the temple was a really special way to end our trip in Japan. We really appreciated the serenity of the location and the grounds. The interaction with the monks was lovely.
This type of stay is not for everyone please have you expectations set to get the most out of this experience.
Check in closes at 5pm. This is because dinner (include in half board) is served at 5.30pm. The meal consists of a traditional Japanese Buddhist meal of about 10 dishes including tofo, rice, soup,...

We wanted to stay in a Ryokan with a Japanese dinner & hot spring. There were many top moments during our stay: our shoe storage space had our name on it, our private dining room was also marked with our name, hot spring was located on a spa terasse and I had the most beautiful view to the sunset while lying in the hot spring alone. We were very well taken care of. A very simple authentic Japanese experience, which will linger on in our minds for a long time. The food was home-cooked, something...

Amazing experience, really got to get into the ceremonies that make up these monks' daily lives. Food was great too, nice baths, room was the nicest I've ever had in Japan, was well worth it

I was always knew this was going to be a true Buddhist experience, but was pleasantly surprised by the comfort and added amenities offered by Kumagai-Ji.
We went for the traditional room, with tatami mats and sliding paper doors, and were blown away by the size of the room (actually two rooms side by side that we both had) and the beauty of the place and location to the zen garden. There was a table for which you kneel at, but had an under heater for your knees! The room was opposite the...

This place is amazing. Large for Japan standards and quirky, with original station features and nice add ons the owner has made. Lovely thoughtful inclusions such as a torch, ear plugs (ee didnt need them, to be honest most places in Japan you can hear a trai !), umbrella, lovely bath products, great coffee, breakfast tickets, microwave. The owner has made the effort. This was a highlight of two weeks around Japan.

What are holiday rentals like in Tenkawa?
Holiday rentals are privately owned properties you can book for a few days, or a quick weekend, in Tenkawa. Holiday rentals provide amenities such as WiFi and washers and dryers so you'll feel right at home. If you're concerned about cleanliness, holiday rentals can offer a sense of safety away from shared hotel lifts and lobbies bustling with people while still allowing you a great travel experience. You'll also have more space in a holiday rental than in a hotel, which makes a holiday rental an attractive choice for a family getaway.
