Sultanhan Hotel - Special Class

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is very well located in Sultanhamet. It's off the main road in a square which means it's in a quiet area (although obviously if there are police/ambulance etc sirens blaring away you do hear them). That said it is a 2 minute walk to the main road and the tram line and 5 minutes to the Blue Mosque. At first the hotel looks a bit dark and dowdy but that's really just the lobby. My room was bright and airy and nicely decorated with a good shower. They also upgraded me so I had a small terrace with a view of the Bosphorous and if you looked hard enough you could just about make out the tops of the minarets of the Blue Mosque. Terrace was fine and you could use the table and chairs. The room was a decent size for the location (you have to be realistic given the area), it had a TV (there were some English language channels), fridge, kettle etc. Decent black out blind. I didn't need to use the AC. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is on the top floor with a fantastic view of Istanbul, . Breakfast was very good for this type of establishment. It's buffet style but containing: boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, local sausages, fresh bread, cereal, yoghurt, local cheeses, local pastries coffee machine, fruit machine (OJ, apple, cherry- not fresh but if you want fresh you need a different type pf hotel or go buy it in the local market). it's not the Four Seasons so don't expect an omlette station but very good all round. I didn't eat lunch there."

"The hotel is a beautiful, historical landmark located in a great part of town. I was underwhelmed with the level of service. We were given a room on the first floor knowing there would be a huge wedding that night with music blasting until very late at night. We enquired about a scale and they said there was one in the room which was incorrect. They told us they’d send one but it never happened. We had to go back and ask for one ourselves and the attitude seemed to be of annoyance. We asked for a calf-hour late checkout and were told…NO! We were initially excited to stay in such a beautiful place but were very turned off by the service level."

"Our hotel was well appointed, comfortable with a great room layout, and very clean. The Reception staff, Bell staff, Doormen, and Housekeeping personnel were spot on-very helpful and friendly! Kudos to all of them as their service was exceptional and all were quite attentive. Jade Rooftop Bar in the hotel is the perfect location for snacks and beverages with romantic and gorgeous views of the Bosphorus and Galata Tower. The hotel also has a wonderful breakfast buffet with so many choices and fresh options that it’s hard to choose! Truly, a five star dining experience with wonderful service. The location of the hotel is fantastic & has many restaurant options and cafés nearby & is also near Galata Port and Karaköy which makes it an easy walk to shopping, dining, or the ferry to cross over to Asia. Additionally, it’s close to walk up to Galata Tower, Beyoğlu & Taksim Square (more shopping, cultural experiences & dining) or cross over the Galata bridge to reach Eminönü for shopping and sightseeing, or perhaps a boat tour up the Bosphorus/Golden Horn! I highly recommend the Hotel and will book it again when in the area."
