"What an incredible stay for us. First time to a ryokan (i.e., traditional Japanese inn w/ onsen). What an experience! Hotel is somewhat confusing to navigate, but that is part of the adventure. The public onsen was incredible (note: they swap the male and female sides, so pay ATTENTION!). The room we stayed in was "traditional" in that we had five futons atop tatami. Haven't selpt that well in a long time! The in-room onsen was a bit old school (basically a deep tub), but still oh so magical....

"We had a great stay at HOTEL MYSTAYS Shimizu. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our visit. "The staff were wonderful and so kind and helpful. We got in late after driving from tokyo after a 16 hour flight and we were so happy to walk into the room we had. It was clean, large and comfortable. When we woke up the next morning and opened our curtains we were met with the most gorgeous view of the ocean. The breakfast buffet was huge and had a wide variety of choices. You could enjoy eggs and bacon and pancakes or have a plate of sushi and a bowl of rice. Every breakfast drink you could think of. There was a vending machine on the first floor that had beer and water and juice and laundry facilities as well. Not to mention a spa and onsen. The beach was a short stroll from the back door through a beautiful walkway down the steps. If you find yourself in shimoda this is a wonderful choice for a place to call home."

"We booked an excellency room to enjoy a private onsen. The room was wonderful with 2 beds and tatami mats for the kids. The couch that looks out over the bay is a wonderful place to relax. We enjoyed a drink in the lounge, dinner in the restaurant, and also the breakfast buffet. Staff were wonderful. The private onsen was very relaxing too. Highly recommend this wonderful hotel."
