The hotel offers a pleasant stay, with delicious dining and courteous service.
Additionally, the hotel features two hot spring pools with scenic views.
Staff was very welcoming, meals were executed very well, sulfur baths and open baths were very nice. Our room was large, comfortable and clean. Great place to stay
best choice in town with the most meticulously prepared dinner and breakfast. newly built hotel rooms with all the great belts and whistles. great room, comfortable beds and fast wifi. highly recommend this hotel!!!
Stayed here for 1 night, after exhausting snowboard activities.
Parking friendly.
Clean and decent hotel and room environment
Excellent and helpful staff.
Great Japanese dinner (added on booking).
5-star hotel experience.
Would come back next time revisiting Zao
Everything at this place was absolutely wonderful. The location was right beside the ski hill. The dinners and breakfast were incredible. The staff was very kind, the rooms were immaculate, and the choice of two Onsens - one outside and one inside was wonderful. Very quiet town - wonderfully relaxing vibe. Thank you so much!
Room tidy and clean, the view is great. foods taste good, staffs are nice and helpful.
Better to have a clock in the hot spring that people can see how long they stay.
My husband and I loved the onsen facility. We also liked the dinner and breakfast. Staffs are very friendly. The pick up and drop-off service was excellent. Thanks
Clean and spacious room. It kinda expensive in ski season, but still the best choice at Zao, Yamagata.
Smoking room is near the lobby, which is a really bad design, you can smell the stinks every time before taking the elevator.
Overall, a great place to stay.
Great hotel that is right next to the best base area at zao onsen resort! The junior suite was incredible, I really liked the Japanese styling with full western amenities. It was extremely spacious and having two in room ac units for the living room and bedroom was great. We never ate dinner at the hotel but my sister and I both really enjoyed the breakfast buffet both days we had it.
Additionally despite a language barrier I found the service to be excellent. Hotel staff came out of the hotel to carry our bags in, and they were very helpful getting us shuttled to the bus station when we left.
My only complaints are price and the indoor onsens. It was very expensive in early February, as nice as the room was, the rest of the facility didn’t quite match the price tag. Additionally the indoor onsen water smelled slightly of chlorine and doesn’t feel like it is sourced from the local sulfur springs. Personally I’d recommend skipping them and just going into town for the public baths unless it’s really late
My wife and I truly enjoy our 3-days-2-nights stay at Zao Shiki No Hotel.
This is our every first time visiting Zao, in Yamagata Prefecture.
Free shuttle services are included to-and-fro between Yamagata Station and the hotel (with prior booking of the service)
This is wonderful, and absolutely convenient.
Check-in process is quick and smooth and the front-desk staff is able to communicate with us in English.
The room assigned to us is on the 6 floor. It is so clean and spacious. We love the room!
Breakfasts and dinners are included in our hotel booking. They are great! We enjoy our meals during our stay in the hotel.
The staff in the restaurant are friendly and provide good services.
Thank you for storing a bottle of Sake which I have ordered it during my dinner on the 1st night. Haha.
I couldn't finish drinking the entire 300ml bottle of Sake by myself alone as my wife is not drinking it. The staff is willing to store and keep the bottle of my Sake so that I can enjoy it for my dinner on the 2nd day.
Thank you team!
We enjoy our stay!
We will return some day in the future !
Every detail was considered for the ultimate relaxing stay. The meals were great, the lobby always had refreshments and the massaging chair in the room was perfect.
The main draw to staying here was the hot springs. I was relieved that my tattoo was not an issue in the baths. I would love to come back and stay longer next time!

Disliked: Staff & service
We were very disappointed with our stay. We were astonished that in a hotel that also welcomes international guests, no one spoke English. The check-in process was unprofessional. Furthermore, we weren't informed that dinner reservations were required. When we wanted to eat, there was neither space nor food available – we ended up having to buy food in Lawson. This is absolutely unacceptable for us at this price point. We had expected significantly more and unfortunately cannot recommend this hotel to foreign guests. They took our money, but we didn't receive the service we expected.
“The overall experience at the hotel was decent, but the front desk staff had a cold attitude. Every time I needed assistance, they were perfunctory, just trying to send me away without really helping. They didn’t provide detailed explanations. For example, when I rented ski equipment, they didn’t measure my height and just randomly picked skis for me. They also didn’t explain how to handle or return the equipment afterwards. The hotel also sells sightseeing tickets with discounts, but the front desk staff didn’t mention that, so I ended up paying more money. There were further problems with other requests as well. As a major brand hotel, their service quality is definitely below standard. The room rates are not cheap either."
