The inn owner of very sweet and friendly. I have enjoyed a very quiet and peaceful stay. I played the old piano and sat in the quaint living room. I would definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.
If you want to experience an 1898 Victorian mansion with just enough history and modern conveniences to make it comfortable, then you will enjoy your stay at Chestnut Charm Bed and Breakfast. Barbara is a great informative host.
I really liked the full breakfast, well balanced and prepared just for us. I liked being able to talk with the host to select the best room for us, she was right. The suite was very comfortable and just right for us.

The Chestnut Charm Experience
This bed and breakfast is in a 126 year old treasure of a former mansion. The B&B
Is period comfortable, decent, safe, sanitary, and an architectural delight. The owner/operator is a devoted gardener, delightful host, and informative historian. We had a wonderfully unique stay.
The main home was built in1898. We stayed in Linwood's View Suite in the Carriage House. It was on the second floor. Beautiful architecture remodeled to the period. Very nicely done. Would definitely stay here again. Barb was very pleasant and cooked us a wonderful breakfast.
Don’t let the outside fool you, this home is a beautiful example of its 1890’s heritage. Stunning stained glass, original woodwork and windows. The beds are firm and breakfast comes with wonderful stories if you request them.

Probably used to be a nice property but it needs some attention. Bed was comfortable and room was nice but limited.
If you want to step back into the age of lumber barons and other characters, then this is the place to stay! Be sure to ask Barbara about the history of the mansion. It is fascinating - dating back over 125 years. The bed and the room were very comfortable. Everything was spotless. The center of Atlantic is just a short walk away. It was easily accessable even on a very warm Spring evening. We would absolutely stay here again.
The owner was a very nice lady. She wanted to talk with ya. And help suggest ideas of things to do and where to eat. The up keep on the bed and breakfast is to much for one person to handle. So I feel she struggles keeping things done. She is trying to do everything herself. I felt like I was a teenager again as I felt you couldn’t come and go without saying what you were doing and when you were coming back. There was no key for the front door so you had to ring for her to come unlock the front door. So we didn’t want to be out to late. The sun porch where we had our breakfast had plants and pots full of dirt. Cobwebs were everywhere out there. So felt very unclean. We will not be staying here again. Unfortunately we were not satisfied. Also I knew breakfast was extra money. We paid onsite instead of hotels.com wish we would’ve it would’ve been cheaper. As it was going to be $310 then add the 40 for breakfast for two times two mornings so should’ve been $350. Was charged $369 I think.
This is not your typical hotel, if you are looking for a unique hotel experience this place is a must. Very comfortable and peaceful and felt like we were stepping back to a more elegant time. Barbara is a wonderful host and a great resource of information about the local area. We would certainly stay here again.
Barbara, the proprietress was very accommodating from check in through check out. Our bed was very comfortable and our room was quiet and nicely appointed. Breakfast, at the time we chose, was delicious-baked apple, specially prepared oatmeal and tasty Iowa bacon, juice and lots of coffee. I am gluten free so this food was prepared specially to accommodate me. We enjoyed eating in the sun/plant room.
Absolutely wonderful. This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast. The home is a 19th century Victorian. The room was comfortable. The bed superb. The breakfast was obviously prepared by an experienced chef. It will be hard for another B&B to top this one.
Chestnut Charm is a charming Victorian mansion. The proprietress Barbara made us a delicious from scratch breakfast both mornings we were there. We have enjoyed staying at Chestnut charm many times over the last 20+ years and will be back in the future. Over the last 20yrs. Barbara's room prices have remained the same. Due to rising costs over the years, Barbara has had to add a small charge for her made from scratch breakfasts. It is well worth the cost.
arrived at the home and it didnt match the picture on website. the home looked abandon from the outside landscaping overgrown. parking in rear of home had zero lighting was unsafe.Once in the home appeared that sunlight hasnt been seen inside for years was dark and no lighting. There was a smell inside downstairs. Our room had window AC couldnt cool room very well. No hair dryer in bathroom and no TV. Breakfast in the morning was at extra cost. Paid for two nights but only stayed for one. Would not recommend staying here.
Barbara is a nice host, engaging with her clients. The property is too much for one person to care for. The critical reviews which have been written describe the truth of this property. We could find no other lodging available for the Walnut antique show, and I can see why this property was open.
We've all been in boring cookie cutter hotels. Here, in contrast, was a beautiful Victorian home complete with Victorian furniture, fireplaces, and chanedliers. Truly an unexpected surprise. Surrounded with flowers, a gazebo, and lawns, it conveys a quiet charm from another era. The host served a wonderful home cooked breakfast. Honestly, I can't understand why anyone visiting this part of Iowa would stay anywhere else. This is the place to go.
My girlfriend and I found this place after the hotel we originally planned to stay at for a friend’s wedding, was fully booked. It was the best thing that could have happened, because Chestnut Charm B&B was such a great experience! It definitely made our trip from out of state, so good. From check-in to check-out, we were very well pleased with our stay. Barbara was very kind, down to earth and hospitable. She treated us as though we were family. Our room, Gretels Garden, was very clean and so homey. The jacuzzi tub was extremely relaxing and definitely got a lot of use during our weekend stay. The surrounding area, complete with trees, flowers, plants, and various wildlife was serene. Barbara made some of the healthiest and tastiest breakfast we’ve ever had! The fact that she uses stuff from her own garden is great. The coffee alone was so pure and smooth. We have absolutely nothing bad to say. This place far exceeded some of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in our travels. If you are looking for something serene, cozy, homey, friendly, with a delicious homemade breakfast, then this is the place for you. If we are to travel back to the Atlantic, Iowa area again, we will absolutely be staying here again. Thank you Barbara for a great experience!!!! - Jeremy & Danielle
Huset mangler vedligehold.
