This is a beautiful hideaway in the middle of northern Cape Breton. The owners are so welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. We arrived on ADV motorcycles looking to explore the interior and were not disappointed. The food at the restaurant was also a highlight.

This place is magic - I’ve never had such a relaxing getaway. Whether it’s hiking or fishing on the wooded trail alongside a gurgling river, sipping coffee on the cabin porch in complete solitude, or sampling some of the finest cuisine at the lodge restaurant for dinner; you will leave here with a rejuvenated soul. Great Intervale Lodge renewed my spirit, and I can see why visitors revisit this place year-after-year once they discover this lodge tucked perfected in a river gorge in the heart of Cape Breton.

We had a wonderful stay! To say it is off the beaten path is an understatement. Dirt road for a very long drive in. But once there, it was beautiful! The hosts Hermann and Ruth were awesome. The food was the best, from seafood to hamburgers a very varied menu all delicious. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We were able to travel from here to most villages in the area easily. We are not fisher people but if we were the river is very accessible. This a wonderful place for all seasons. Highly recommend if you are up for an adventure or a quiet getaway it’s up to you!

Very cozy cabins. Satellite TV ,mini fridge ,and coffee maker are supplied in the cabin .WiFi is available in the lodge but the farther you are from the lodge the lower the signal . We had the farthest cabin and signal was weak and spotty. Cell service is unavailable due to the mountains surrounding the property . I would definitely recommend that you stay here if you are in need of a reset from the stresses of work and day to day routine . Lots of hiking and fishing locations and just off the Cabot Trail . This is a little slice of heaven . The owners are very friendly and welcoming .

Wonderful location with breathtaking scenery - don't forget to have dinner at the Lodge....one of the best meals I've ever had on the East coast and I have been traveling all over the Maritimes for 15 years.

It's a beautiful spot if you are wanting to be totally secluded in the wilderness. It's a very verrry long and windy gravel road to get there, but the scenery is lovely! The owner is the sweetest, and while we didn't get to enjoy any of the food there because of our time restrictions, it looked very delicious! *something to note, the website says WiFi but there was none at all in the cabin. (this was an issue for us because we had to do work online at night and weren't able to connect). Also, the power went out for many hours so make sure you are ready for the pitch black and crickets😉

We are sorry that you had to experience a power outage which had effected the whole region from Cheticamp to Inverness and Margaree...It only lasted for 3 hours over night. Nestled between the lush, rolling hills of the Margaree Highlands and the beautiful Margaree River, lies the Big Intervale Fishing Lodge. It is fair to say that we are secluded, the internet is not the best and it is a 15 km dirt road.

Quiet secluded spot with basic amenities. Restaurant options were varied and the food was fantastic. Ruth & Hermann are great host and take very good care of their guests and their needs.

Such a wonderful experience where do I start?! First off, Herman and Ruth were hands down one of the TOP hosts we have ever had. They were friendly, accommodating, and really made our family feel warm and welcome in their cottage. The amount of care and attention to detail they give in every aspect of their business is simply top notch. From putting up signs from the road to direct you to the place (they know that most people’s GPS cuts off there), to the FOOD.. oh God the food!! I had to ask Herman if he used to be a world class chef in the past because it was that good! They use herbs and veggies from their own garden, and the cooking techniques he used were like that of a classically trained chef (I know as I am in that industry), to the the cleanliness of the cabins and much much more… we could instantly tell that they truly do give their heart and soul into the place! I am also a huge fly fisherman and our conversations about angling were great as he shared local intel and even recommended a great guide that I ended up hiring for a fantastic trip on the rivers! Needless to say we loved our stay at Big Intervale Fishing Lodge and we highly recommend them to anyone looking to stay in the area. PS. Did I mention how great the food was already?! 🏆🏆🏆

Great weekend.
The owners of this lodge are a lovely couple who does everything then can to make your stay the best it can be. The cottages are comfortable and have all the comforts of home. The food was excellent and a lot of choices. We have been here four or five times and look forward to our next trip.

Everything about the lodge and cottages was lovely but we requested a stay though Expedia close to Chéticamp. The Expedia site gave us this place as an option for staying in Chéticamp with a noted travel distance of 23km, which we thought was reasonable. Fact, the back of the drive from Chéticamp to the turn off to here is 55km plus an additional 16km up a dirt road 😳. Not ideal for three woman and children in the late evening.

thank you for sharing. We are off the beaten track....on the beautiful Margaree River. About one hour from Cheticamp, Baddeck and Inverness. We recommend arriving by daylight and enjoy the beautiful scenery on your way in.

I wasn't able to stay because the power was still out from Huricane Dorian. I booked through expedia earlier in the day. The property staff contacted me well before I arrived. They were very friendly and apologized for the inconvenience. They suggested a few other places but I ended up finding one closer to where I was when I got the call. I would love to come back and experience what I missed. Very genuine friendly people.

C`est un lieu enchanteur .le panorama avec sa chute est extraordinaire par son coté naturelle.. A notre arrivée , je me suis glissée sous les draps propres.. J;ai reconnu ce détergeant à lessive très parfumer. .La nuit a été agitée par la sensation de picotement sur ma peau Pour régler j`ai appliquée de la crême sur mon corps et rien n`a changée. Mon conjoint n`a pas été affecter si ce n`est que mes agitations nopturne.

The property is nice and tidy. The food is impressive. Staff is very friendly. The internet service is a bit slow. However, the location is very challenging. The area is not covered by GPA signal. We need to go through a dirt road for 30 mins. It is advice that plan to arrive before sunset because we need to watch for the road sign of the property. Another way is to down the map beforehand so that you can use the GPS offline map. I think expedia should warn the user before the booking is completed.

Beautiful setting away from everyday life with all the necessary amenities you could need. It could be a little remote for some people but for those of us who’d like to throw your smartphone off a cliff, it’s perfect (But wifi is included for those who can’t).

Cute cottages and good food in a beautiful remote (seriously remote!) setting on a river. No lunch served, so we ate leftovers from dinner and breakfast. Nice hiking trail along the river with views of mountains. Owners were friendly. Only negative is the 8 miles (13 kilometers) to get here over muddy, pot-holed-dirt road, sometimes partly covered by water. Took 30 minutes to go the 8 miles, so no easy in or out if you want to visit other places. Still, a pretty nice place to be!

Near the salmon pools. Excellent dining area . A lot of salmon pictures and trivia. Gravel road could use grading ,a few potholes. Owners treated guests like family.
