Snook's Grave from London Road. The little white stone marks the supposed site of the grave of Robert Snooks, the last highwayman to be executed in England at the scene of his crime. His real name was James Blackman Snook, the "Robert" probably being a corruption of "Robber" and the final S from the possessive case. Closer views can be seen 999762 & 999781 where you will find more information about him & his crime.

Grand Union Canal: Winkwell Dock (3) This photograph shows the entrance to the dry dock about an hour before 614681. The cream superstructure of a narrowboat in the dry dock under the polytunnel covering can be seen far right of the photograph.

Grand Union Canal: Railway bridge near Winkwell This skewed bridge carries the West Coast Main Line railway over the canal. The bridge was originally designed and engineered by Robert Stephenson in 1838 as an open girder bridge, but at some stage in the past has been concreted in. A line drawing showing the original elegant bridge around the 1930s can be seen on the canal information board at Winkwell Lock.
