Located centrally on a road busy, in a seedier part of Brisbane - we booked the Clayfield Motel for a 1 night stay due to its proximity to the Brisbane airport. Another reason for booking was Expedia advertised a shuttle to the airport. We were later informed by the Motel's personnel that the shuttle service ceased some time ago - more on that below.
Our flight which started in Perth touched down little late; so, we arrived "after hours" to find the place locked down tighter than Fort Knox.
In a dimly lit parking lot, there was notice for guests arriving afterhours. We rang a service bell. After a while, someone arrived to point out our room key (an actual key) was in a lock box near the office and an entry code had been provided via text.
The same person (who appeared piqued at having been disturbed) pointed out that as our room was up several flights of stairs (no lift\elevator) we could use a type of dumb waiter device to lift our bags to the appropriate level. The device looked ancient and did not trust our luggage to it; I hauled our bags up to the top floor.
Back to the no longer existing shuttle, add a $35 taxi ride for 6.5 kms to get to the Motel and the same back; we may as well have stayed at the Ibis near the airport for almost the same price.
Now as for places to eat - after 9 (like the Motel) most everything is closed, although we did find a Nandos. Chairs were up on tables, but they feed us anyway.
Bottom line - avoid this property.
