From the moment I arrived, I knew this was not your average hotel — this was a destination experience. The property itself is breathtaking. Nestled in the lush jungle canopy above Manuel Antonio, the views are the kind that stop you mid-sentence. Every morning I woke up to the sounds of the rainforest, howler monkeys in the distance, and a sunrise that reminded me exactly why Costa Rica is called the "Rich Coast." The rooms are beautifully appointed, the grounds are immaculate, and the overall atmosphere strikes that rare perfect balance between luxury and pure nature. But what truly elevated this stay above anything I could have expected was one person — Jairo. Jairo is, without question, one of the finest hospitality professionals I have ever encountered anywhere in the world. From day one, he took the time to genuinely understand what I was looking for in my experience — not just as a guest, but as a person. He crafted a personalized itinerary tailored specifically to my interests, curated local recommendations I never would have discovered on my own, and checked in with me daily to make sure every detail exceeded expectations. "My daughter and I stayed here and felt very safe. The parking situation is very challenging as it’s on a very steep pill with a lot of blind spots, but it is close to dining and shopping and the view is absolutely incredible. We really enjoyed the staff and the pool was the highlight. The beds are terrible. The mattresses are rock hard and the rooms are very dated. That would be my only complaint."

"If you are staying in one of the private pool villas, do not leave without doing the floating breakfast basket. Waking up and having a beautifully arranged breakfast delivered and set afloat in your own private pool, surrounded by jungle and Pacific air, is an experience that is genuinely difficult to put into words. It is indulgent, it is romantic, and it is the kind of memory you carry home with you. Non-negotiable. From the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out, every single member of the staff treated us like family. They team went above and beyond, not just in service, but in genuine hospitality. They took the time to share local recommendations that turned into some of our favorite memories of the trip. Jennifer and Nubia delivered one of the most relaxing and beautifully executed massages we’ve ever had. The golf cart team, those guys were exceptional. They made sure we didn’t miss a single animal on the property. A heartfelt thank you to the housekeeping team for keeping our room immaculate every single day. That level of consistency and care does not go unnoticed. To the owner: bravo. The architectural design, the attention to detail, the seamless blend of luxury and nature — it is clear that every inch of Makanda was designed with intention and love.
