"This rundown motel is in the middle of an effort to be rehabilitated, but nothing is in working order yet. They should have waited. No table and chairs in the efficiency units. They were apparently on order. Finally, they gave us a rusted metallic secretary chair and an office desk. The utensil services were incomplete. We gave the ones we had in our room to our daughter so she could have a minimal set, and we used our own, as we had the bright idea to bring some. The showers were lukewarm, if not cold. The linen was old and worn out. Some bed covers were dirty in our adult daughter's room on arrival, and we had to complain to have those removed and a clean one given. One night, we came back around midnight, and our electronic keys were unusable, and there was nobody on site to help. We were able to go in via the washroom windows (2 rooms). They came in the morning and apologized with the new keys and offered us a free night for a future stay. (if ever...) The last night of our 5-night stay (in 2 rooms), a Tuesday, the management threw an outdoor barbecue and invited everybody in sight. The barbecue became a party with music and alcohol, with loud talking well after eleven. My daughter had to have a fit to ask them to stop it so she could sleep, as we were leaving the following morning at 7 am to drive to Norfolk airport. Management finally stopped it. I want a full reimbursement. Fortunately, the beach was very close and beautiful, and the weather was fair. Imagine."

"I walked into the room and was blown away by the smell of cleaning products. I tried to open the window for some fresh air, but they are sealed shut. I just thought, "At least it's clean," and tried to make the best of it. I went in to use the bathroom, and there was something on the floor that was slimy & sticky all at the same time. I wiped the floor up with a hand towel, and it was gray & so gross. I wanted to take a bath, but the bathtub had a bunch of yellow slime in it. Tried to wipe it out, and some of it came off. In short, the bathroom was filthy! I was sick to my stomach, and I had a headache from the fumes. I didn't even stay. I checked about an hour and a half after I checked in. They offered me another room, but I cannot imagine it would be any cleaner or less pungent. I was too disgusted to stay. A waste of money, but I just couldn't stay."
A Place at the Beach

"The pool was closed due to health dept problems; we found out from a resident there. The property gave no warning prior it would be closed and no explanation. They offered no discount for this. We arrived after 5 and us reached out prior to coming to see what the procedure was if you arrived late. No one responded. When I called someone called me back quickly but gave me the third degree about not letting them know I was coming late. I did send a message 3 days prior asking what to do if we were late. So the next morning we had to go back to complete the check in process asap. Lots of threats of if you don’t check in first thing, lose a wrist band, get locked out etc all extra fees. So we ran down first thing and told them the faucet was coming off the wall in one of the bathrooms and there was and issue with the extra blanket in the closet we found and tried to use. The extra blanket in the room had a hole and what looked like dry vomit on it. They did replace it but didn’t take the dirty one, they left a new one in a trash bag by the door. The rooms were not very clean and very cramped. There was construction going on and the tiny tiny balcony faced the dumpsters and the construction equipment in the parking lot. It was close to the beach with a good location but unless I got a better unit, cleaner unit and the pool was open I wouldn’t stay here again. They never did come fix the faucet."

"This is a very nice hotel! My only complaint is that I didn’t plan to stay two nights instead of just one here on our road trip. It’s modern, beautiful, clean and comfortable. Luxury at an affordable price. We especially enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. We always try to stay at hotels that offer a breakfast and the fare is usually pretty good. But this was a cut above, fresh fruit with yogurt honey or strawberry topping, freshly made French toast, a well seasoned frittata to mention a few. Also, the man who made and served the breakfast (I wish I had gotten his name) was so welcoming and friendly. Also, the hotel is located just a 3 block walk to the shops and restaurants of this historic town. Highly recommend."
Crystal Coast Oceanfront Hotel

"The good: Love the ocean front room. The view is beautiful. The restaurant downstairs is convenient and decent. The not so good: The beach chairs and umbrellas are in a sad state, falling apart. They used to charge for them. They can't anymore, so they now charge $20 plus tax per day to park in their parking lot at the hotel. The design of the double room has the air conditioner blowing on the face of the person in the bed closest to the sliding glass door. The ice machine was down on our floor for the entire trip. The offered beach towels are small mismatched bath towels. We have stayed here for the past 6 years and are disappointed with the recent changes"
