"First of all, the staff were unfailingly friendly throughout our stay. And the food at dinner and breakfast was mostly good. That's why 4 stars instead of 3.
The location is delightful - we had a partial river/partial parking lot view (glorious sunrise) - and is seconds from the riverfront walk and pretty 'downtown' Clayton.
The rooms were spacious and the beds were comfortable. However... the floors in the room get mopped with water that doesn't get changed enough - the room was musty, and our shoes, slippers, and feet were sticking to the floor the whole weekend. When we had to move a bedside table to get at a functioning outlet, there was dust and dirt and bits of old food underneath (also under the beds). The bathroom was large, chilly, and echo-y - even the toilet paper was a bit disappointing (fragile single layer stuff). There are refrigerators in the room but no tea/coffee making machines. The hotel goes to a lot of trouble to put coffee, hot water, tea bags, hot chocolate packets, etc. out in the elevator lobbies on each floor every morning, but it was always (even at 6:30 am) weak and lukewarm.
The bottom line is that this hotel wants to appear fancier than it is. It feels like - perhaps because of the economic climate - they've had to cut some corners. Set your expectations accordingly."
