Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you prepare well enough. We've compiled a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Vaalwater escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a pleasure if you bring the right things. Firstly, you'll want a few basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good book. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, any daily medications and perhaps a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, be sure to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items differs between airlines, the general guide to follow is nothing sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, pocket knives, fireworks and fuel. Sports equipment like ice skates, and items that could injure passengers, such as swords and guns, won't be allowed on board either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Comfort should be your main priority when selecting what to wear during your flight. Consider your footwear choice carefully too, as swollen feet can be a side effect of flying. Shoes which are flat and slightly roomy are your best bet.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-haul flights is developing DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by extended periods of inactivity. To avoid this, take every opportunity to walk around the cabin and stretch your legs. Compression socks and tights are also a great idea to help reduce this risk.
