Wherever you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you're well organised. We've compiled a list of essential travel tips that will help get your York escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a great experience if you take the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and hairbrush, a spare set of clothes and a good read. Next, find room in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, any daily medications and maybe a proper neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to bring your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Pack all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any gels or liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3null4 ounces (100 milliliters) won't be allowed on. Sharp objects, like a Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are explosive or flammable, such as spray paint, flares and fireworks, are also restricted.
What to wear on a flight:
- The main aim is to make yourself as comfortable as you can. Layer up with loose, natural fibers and bring a sweater in case it gets cold in the cabin. Go for a pair of flat, well-fitting shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and heavy hiking boots in your checked baggage.
- You've probably heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. There's lots you can do to mitigate your risk. Don a pair of compression socks, stay hydrated and get your legs and feet moving. Do a lap or two of the cabin or perform exercises in your seat.
