We've got the lowdown on how to make your journey a pleasant experience. Follow our insider tips and you'll be hightailing it through the airport and having a ball in Zaandam in no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you've got all the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want some basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare pair of socks and a few magazines. Secondly, make room in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any daily medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow as well. Lastly, be sure to bring your passport, travel documents and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of prohibited items differs between airlines, the general rule to follow is nothing flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes box cutters, razor blades, aerosol cans and bleaching agents. Sporting equipment like ski poles, and objects that could harm passengers, such as guns and swords, aren't allowed in the cabin either.
What to wear on a flight:
- Go for comfort over style. Prepare for changes in temperature by layering up, and wear flat, easy-to-remove shoes like slip-ons.
- You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To lower your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression socks and move your legs and feet often.
