"The hotel reminded of a beautiful old Colonial style Hotel. The grounds are beautiful. Location is a short walk to the shops in Hamilton.
The breakfast area, which includes a free breakfast, is partially open to the outside and is surrounded by a tranquil garden. My one criticism of the breakfast area is that small birds come in and walk on tables and the breakfast area. There needs to be a better effort to keep them out of the room. My wife and I enjoyed our breakfast every morning.
In the evening at 5pm there is wine and beer and cheese and crackers provided, again for free. There is a cosy living room to sit and dine on sofas and converse with other guests if you so choose.
The restaurant on site is an excellent choice for dinner. We ate there on 2 occasions.
Room was great. No complaints, clean and well serviced daily. King size bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well.
The staff is kind, friendly and helpful.
The pool is small but perfect for a smaller hotel. Only 6 loungers but half the time we could snag a couple. Only complaint at the pool is that the staff smokes out the back of the hotel and the smell of smoke often wafts into the pool area. My wife and I smelled it both in our loungers and in the pool. However we very much enjoyed our time at the pool.
Highly recommend this hotel and it’s ambiance and the helpful and friendly staff is a welcome change to many of the larger hotels we have frequented."
"We had a very pleasant stay after requesting we be moved to a less remote room with a better view. The staff was friendly, though we could not always get the information we needed. We were not on the all-inclusive plan and when we wanted a little breakfast we were told the dining room was only serving a buffet. We asked if we could order ala carte and were told we could get a bagel and coffee at the snack bar. Later we were told we could have ordered ala carte at the buffet. Be prepared for very high food prices. This is not only at the hotel, but due to the island having to import practically everything. We cut through the parking lot to make the easy walk to the Swizzle Inn, home of the original Swizzle rum drink (meh) that had very good food with entertainment. Prices there were a bit more reasonable than the hotel. There was also a highly -outed ice cream parlor across the street which we never got to try.
Our main concern with the Grotto Inn was that with the many steps on the pathways, the rustic railings were poorly maintained to the point where it was easy to get a splinter, and they wobbled considerably.
My wife said the Thai massage was reasonably priced and the best massage she has ever had! Add to this that it was set in a natural cave and it was a major highlight of her stay. The heated pool was heated just enough to take the edge off the cold. The natural grotto pool was lovely, but hard to exit as the ladder needs an extra rung for non-athletes."
"Hi,
I just returned from my stay at Dawkins Manor....Mrs Dawkins was a great host...don't expect the most updated furnishings and ammenities but you get what you pay for and it was a great value....super clean....nice amount of space...very centrally located...walk to market, the beach, bus stop....I will definitely stay there again when traveling back to the island."
