Doulting: Abbey Barn

St. Aldhelm's Well, Doulting, Somerset On May 25th, 709, Aldhelm sat by this spring singing his favourite psalms for the very last time. Then, according to the chronicler William of Malmesbury, he directed that he should be carried into the nearby church, where he breathed his last. The church 1358153 celebrated its 1300th Anniversary in May, 2009. The spring, at the foot of the ridge on which church and village are built, has a reputation as one of our most authentic holy wells. It is the source of the River Sheppey; in charters of Aldhelm's day the Sheppey was called Doulting Stream.

Doulting: postbox № BA3 143, Farringdon Lane A small postbox just north of the main road, whose junction we see in the distance. It is emptied at 11am on weekdays and at 9am on Saturdays.

The room exceeded expectations with a small built in sofa and table. Even though we had a first floor room there was no noise from outside. Would recommend.

The room was nicely furnished (including with antiques, which is an unusual touch), coffee for the machine in the kitchen, clean. Location handy both for Whiteladies Road and the city centre. I emailed asking about parking on site but received no response whatsoever, which was disappointing.
