"Breakfast was excellent. It is an easy Metro ride to Bellecour or Vieux Lyon for sightseeing, museums and restaurants.
Price per night was very reasonable."
"Hotel Simplon is conveniently located near the Perrache metro stop on the "peninsula," between the rivers. We found it a great location--to walk to the old town and to restaurants/cafes, much of it via a pedestrian zone, 'Rue Victor Hugo'. Hotel staff members were friendly and v. helpful, esp. a young man (Adrien?) at the desk when we arrived in the afternoon on June 8, who gave crystal clear walking and metro directions (esp. to the airport). He also found us a room with a slightly larger shower which made a big difference. While an older hotel with only fours floors and a tiny lift, it was well-maintained and clean. Our room was small; the bed was comfortable, and there were no noise issues. [We did not see smoke detectors/sprinklers in our rooms, and meant to inquire, but forgot.] The terrific staff made the difference between a good stay and a very good one!"
"Excellent location to all major attractions. If you want to forego the hotel breakfast there's plenty of breakfast options within a short walking distance"
"The hotel is located just behind the train station in Lyon’s 2nd arrondissement. The building itself is beautiful, elegant, and full of historic charm. While some parts of the interior décor feel a bit dated, the beds are modern and extremely comfortable, providing a great night’s sleep. The hotel was clean and well maintained.
What impressed us most was the friendliness and warmth of the staff. We arrived very early in the morning, and the front desk kindly allowed us to check in well before the standard check-in time. They even mentioned that they completely understood how exhausting a long journey from Canada could be. This thoughtful gesture made us feel genuinely welcomed and was greatly appreciated. Excellent customer service and a wonderful stay overall!"
"Arriving there is a car park with lots of space, also free of charge. Check in was very quick and friendly staff. The room we were allocated didn't have working air con so we told reception and were moved immediately. Rooms are spacious enough for a couple of nights. There's even a robot that will bring you snacks and toilet can cast you phone to the TV. Would stay again."
"This seems to be student accom that has been changed to a small basic tourist apartment. One half of the building is for students (campus) and the other is for tourists. As such it is functional without much ambiance.
But it’s well located close to a tramline and metro.
The main train line runs next to the building which is quite ugly but doesn’t really cause too much noise.
And it is easy distance to explore the centre of Lyon and the historical old town.
The local restaurants are good and small supermarket nearby.
The Saone river with all the restaurant boats is a few blocks away.
There are also a pile of homeless people just outside the front door living under the railway bridge on both sides of the street- lots of junk, very messy and a little intimidating when they have fights amongst themselves but they caused no harm to us. So overall not a great environment but an ok apartment a as d a beautiful city."
"This small hotel is well located within walking of old city and great restaurants. Junior suite in tower was beautiful. First class in all respects. Fantastic breakfast. Very helpful staff that provided over the top service. Highly recommended."
