Purpose: family gift for our mother and brother

We chose this property specifically as a 5-star hotel opposite Dubai Mall. At the booked hotel address, my family were told “you are not staying here” and redirected to a different building we never selected. Despite an advance request for early check-in (travelling with a toddler), staff spoke rudely and charged USD 50 at 11:00 just to enter. The assigned unit was not 5-star: broken shower, dirty/smelly bathroom, stained linens, damaged sockets; and access to main facilities was refused, although facilities were a key reason for booking.
This experience spoiled a carefully planned family gift and caused distress to an elderly parent and a small child. We have photo/video evidence and have requested a full refund, the USD 50 refund, and compensation through the official channels (Expedia and Dubai Consumer Rights).
Tip for management: please ensure guests are accommodated at the booked hotel address, train staff on empathetic early check-in handling (especially with children), and verify cleanliness and facility access before assigning rooms.
