"We recently stayed at this hotel and had a mixed experience. The breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of foods, and the service from the staff throughout our stay was genuinely outstanding. Unfortunately, the bedrooms and en-suite facilities were very dated and in need of a thorough clean and modernisation. We were disappointed on arrival, although the staff did change our room without any trouble. The second room had a slightly larger bed, but the overall standard still fell well below the expectations set by the photos on the website. The bar and breakfast room have clearly been refurbished and look beautiful, but from the stairs upwards the hotel is in real need of some TLC. The stair carpet is threadbare, and there are visible cracks in the walls, ripped wallpaper, dirty paintwork, and thick dust in several areas. The staff and breakfast were definite highlights, but the accommodation and general upkeep let the experience down. "

"Lovely hotel. Very glad I took their offer to book table for dinner on first night, as we struggled to find somewhere on the 2nd night that had a table. Rye was lovely, suspect we will go back one day and would happily stay at same hotel again. We had great view out to Camber castle and walked there and to great bird hide nearby to it."

"The reception area was welcoming. We were upgraded from a standard room overlooking the beach - I would hate to see what the standard room looked like. Our room was clean but very out-dated and tired looking. The shower cubicle was surrounded by mould and the bathroom windows could not open. As you looked out of the window all you saw was bird muck everywhere. The windows were single glazed so you heard everything outside. The breakfast was self service and okay. If you are vegetarian you had to order your sausages. The coffee was good and the staff were very friendly. "

"I recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The property is clearly very old and has not been maintained to a reasonable standard. From the moment I arrived, it felt run down and neglected. The cleanliness was particularly concerning. The room was visibly dirty, with dust and grime in multiple areas. The bedding was especially off-putting—it looked worn, unclean, and far from fresh, which made it very uncomfortable to sleep. One of the biggest issues was the lack of hot water. After a long journey, not being able to have a proper shower was extremely frustrating and unacceptable for any hotel, regardless of price. Overall, the hotel felt tired, poorly maintained, and lacking in basic standards of hygiene and comfort. I would not recommend staying here unless significant improvements are made."

"Super stay. Bright, clean room Superior Classic. Had tasty sandwich lunch outside in sunshine. The hotel is wonderfully situated, set back from the road and coastline. Beachy Head walks very close by and superb promenade walks right out front by the sea. Great for Congress Theatre. Splendid historic building, facilities and friendly staff. Parking on site. Fabulous varied breakfast....cereals, fruits, smoked salmon/meats/cheeses and served hot breakfasts. Love it there. Thanks"
