"We loved our four-night stay at B&B Al Carotin. Julio is super friendly and always at hand. The property has balconies overlooking the valley and mountains, and it was so relaxing just to sit out on the balcony, drink in the views, and let your shoulders drop. We took a day trip to Tirano and took the train up to Switzerland, which is the same line as the Bernina Express. We had a couple of very enjoyable days by the lake. We'd love to come back."

"The staff was amazing. Food was delicious . Dorms are not sound proof though. So you could hear any noise coming from the other rooms. However, after 10:30pm it was super quiet and we could only hear the sound of the water from the lake. Really pleasant. "

"Great hotel, renovated a few years ago so in great condition - clean rooms, great location, quiet. short walk to town and awesome restaurant options. Make sure to reserve parking upfront as only have a few spaces. Lobelt breakfast. Excellent service - they helped recommend tours, places to eat, etc. We followed all recommendations and things were perfect. Thank you."

"quite a long walk from train station ( 1 km) no taxis! but pretty well the closest. bar is also reception (which was great as I was desperate for a beer after bus substituted for train! efficient small lift, comfortable room with large comfy bed & plenty of electric plugs. quiet in room despite it being a Saturday, although restaurant full with waiting list. great well priced Italian meal (despite being promoted as Sushi - which was available -after a fashion)! slept well. Owner opened breakfast...

"Very clean and beautiful property, they have a great village style restaurant with authentic food, It was busy during the weekend and turned out to be the best one in town. Room was very nice. "

"The hotel was half way up the mountain so it was lovely to have them pick us up from the train station. The town of Varenna was easily reached with a 10 minute walk down the mountain however the uphill trip could be a bit gruelling, there is a free bus that operates from the station after 7pm. The hotel room was well appointed and even had a washing machine which was well used by us. It was a beautiful peaceful setting with pool and spa and a lovely restaurant a few steps away. "Really nice place, great view. Massive hill to climb. No Ubers, and near impossible to get a taxi. We couldn’t get one until day 3. Unless you rent a car don’t book this place. Getting to and from town and the ferry with luggage is a nightmare without a car. Walking on your own is ok, but takes time and you need to be in shape. "
