The breakfast was fabulas with every type of foods, fresh fruits and different breads. Staff were lovely and friendly. Though there was no vegan milk out when I asked for it the lady on breakfast staff quickly produce it. Room was lovely with a balcany and beautiful toiletries.

Lovely position next to the cable car entrance. Beautiful gardens and the original part of the Quinta is lovely and full of antiques. The bedroom furnishings are a little tired and could benefit from tea & coffee making facilities. The pool area could also do with some redecoration/updating. Breakfast was plentiful with a varied buffet selection

Der Wintergarten für die Mahlzeiten, kein Gedränge, ausreichend Platz und wunderbare Aussicht und Atmosphäre. Einige Zimmer müssen mit Fahrstuhlgeräuschen ( Tag und Nacht)leben, andere haben morgens keine Sonne, aber alle haben Gartenblick. Abends gibt es nichts zu tun oder zu erleben auf dem Monte, außer Ruhe und friedliche Sicht auf die Stadt. Das Hotel ist nur mühsam zu erreichen ( durch steile enge Gassen ) mit dem Bus oder dem Auto. Die bezaubernde Atmosphäre auf den Plätzen mit den hohen Platanen entschädigt dafür.

Richtig gutes Hotel

Der Aufenthalt war sehr schoen, das Hotel ist echt gut, es gibt aber einen minuspunkt fuer die anreise. Das Hotel liegt oben am Berg und ist mit dem Auto nur ueber sehr steile Wege zu erreichen. Dafuer gibt es eine gute sicht auf den Hafen von Funchal.

Friendly staff, lovely hotel and great view

We stayed there for 7 days in September. It was a very good and relaxed stay . The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, always ready to help or answer a question. The room was great, the food was very good. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the location as well- nice setting and a lovely garden and you have a choice of bus, taxi or cable car to get to Funchal if you want . The only thing we were not convinced was the swimming pool. it needs some work. Other than that, lovely place and lovely people.

Beautiful old building with lovely gardens. Friendly reception staff. Rooms decor a little tired, could do with updating. Good breakfast with a nice selection every morning. Restaurant is pricey but the food was nice. Pool is freezing cold!

Posizione molto bella. Personale soprattutto camerieri e reception deludenti. L'ultimo giorno hanno dimenticato di farci avere la colazione come precedentemente concordato. Stanze discrete ma con macchie sulla moqhette, così come nei corridoi.

La struttura è scenograficamente eccellente immersa nel verde dello splendido giardino e i primi 2 piani di rappresentanza sono molto belli, le camere da lettp ampie così come i bagni, ma tutto è molto datato. La moquette delle stanze e dei corridoi vecchia, macchiata e usurata, tende rattoppate e lenzuola lise, diverse macchie di muffa sui soffitti!!!! I camerieri ci hanno rimproverato perché ci siamo presenttati 5 min prima dell'apertura della sala colazione perchè avevamo un escursione oltretutto prenotata dall'hotel!!! Non abbiamo mai fatto richieste particolari se non il cestino della colazione la mattina del check out risultato niente!!! Il receptionist della sera prima dopo avergli ripetuto varie volte l'orario e avere acconsentito alle condizioni dell'albergo, aveva sbagliato a scrivere l'orario o meglio questa è stata la giustificazione, secondo noi il receptionist della notte non ha avvisato la cucina e si è addormentato!!! Oltretutto il receptionist che ha fatto il check in non ci ha dato sufficienti informazioni sui bus che arrivano all'hotel che dista 5 km di ripida salita dal centro!!! L'hotel si fregia della green key, ma usa ancora bottigliette di plastica per shampoo e bagno di schiuma!!! Insomma tutto questo non è congruo per un hotel che millanta 4 o addirittura 5 stelle!!!!

Achtung: Keine Sauna!

Das „SPA“ ist nur bis 19:00 Uhr geöffnet und die Sauna ist defekt. Das wohl schon länger, wie die Servicefrau sagte. Hinweis an hotel.com: Trotz Ihrer 2x hilfsbereiten Nachfrage/Bestätigung VOR Anreise, gab es die angegebene Sauna nicht. Ich habe nur keine Lust auf Reklamations-Gedöns... Die Anfahrt mit dem PKW war trotz viel Fahrerfahrung abenteuerlich. Dafür entschädigt die Lage und der tw. Ausblick. Zum Essen würde ich wieder außerhalb gehen. 35€-Abendmenü stehen in keinem Verhältnis zu der statk abgewohnten Hotelanlage. Matratzen: schlecht!

The hotel is located high above Funchal in a wonderfully peaceful location, surrounded by beautiful gardens with stunning views. It does mean a 30-35 minute trip by bus or taxi into the city. We chose to use the local busses of which there is a choice of 3, and are frequent and cheap. The staff were friendly, attentive and very helpful. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the gardens and views of the sea; it was cleaned and beds re-maid daily. The beds were very firm and an extra armchair would have been welcome. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first night and found it rather expensive. Given the rather isolated location there was limited choice of other cafe's or restaurants so chose to eat in the city most days.

Hotel is beautifully located and has potential but it does not deserve 5 stars being in current condition. It needs updating and more staff. Bar is never staffed and you have to run around looking for a waiter. Swimming pool has mould and jacuzzi does not work despite our remarks. Carpets remember a previous era .If you want to use a safe in your room ,you have to ask for a key which costs 1.5 euros per day (unheard of) .There is no coffee or tea facility in the room which normal is a case in 5star hotels. Hotel is located high on the mountain and surrounded by charming gardens which has sweetened our stay. However it deserves 3 stars at the moment although the owners could easily upgrade it with a bit of will and investment.
