"Friendly staff and plentiful decent food"

" From the moment I arrived, my entire experience at this B&B was exceptional. "There were no disabled parking spots, only reserved ones for electric cars. I booked an executive room (112), and was surprised to note one of the windows looked onto the bin area and recycling, that has lights on most of the night and early morning noise. My bath had mould around the seals, and the bath plug had to be removed with a spoon, which dislodged more mould that floated in the bath. When I mentioned about changing my room before unpacking due to the view, there were no others...

"I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! "

"I booked 2 rooms, both of which were excellent, very clean and beautifully furnished, recently fitted bathrooms with excellent facilities. The staff were wonderfully friendly and welcoming, they made us feel very comfortable in the beautiful location. We really enjoyed our pre dinner drinks by the open fire in the guests lounge and learning about the history as we explored the building. Delicious food, we met the chef who checked our exact needs. We could not find any faults at all with our stay...

"Breakfast was excellent. Room was excellent.Only thing to mention that was my fault was to explain that I was coming by bicycle, so mine host would have been expecting me to arive by bicycle. Host was excellent."

"Very pleasant inn keeper. He was helpful and friendly. The breakfast choices were perfect whether you wanted a meal breakfast or something light. Rooms were clean. I worried about the stairs as I have difficulty climbing some stairs and these were not taxing on my knees, Appreciate the stay at The Old Rectory."
