Ishak Pasha Palace

This is an architectural wonder within the shadow of the famed Mt Ararat. When I visited it was not finished. It was begun in1685, continued in 1784 and still not finished. The relief work in the various courtyards is intricate. At this stage I'd count it as a folly, along with Hurst Castle and Neuschwanstein Castle. The Ishak Paşa castle is awesomely located just 5km away from Doğubeyazıt and although it is possible to ride a Dolmuş there, the short walk with Mount Ararat as a background is well worth the effort.
