We arrived two hours after check-in time hoping we would get straight into our room. A man behind the desk gave us a room key and just as we started to head out of the foyer to try and find the room, the manager came along and grabbed the key out of my hand and said we wouldn't be in that room and told us to wait in the restaurant. We waited for 15 minutes there and we were then showed up to our room by the same manager - obviously they were running behind and rushing things as there was still rubbish in the bin and mugs that had been previously used. During the night it was cold and found out that our radiator was broken so I went downstairs to let them know, they brought up a portable radiator in 5 minutes which was good. The restaurant is the best place in the hotel with the best wifi as well. The food is delicious but we wont be returning to stay, only to eat.

Such a shame that this property which has the potential to be first class is let down so badly. On arrival our friends who had made their booking by telephone before us were told there was no booking for them. Eventually they were given a room which we reckon previous residents must have forgot to hand back the keys. For the first day and a half there was no room key and for the full time we were there there was no key for the patio door. They were told don’t worry nothing ever gets stolen. They rooms , were on the surface , beautifully decorated and well laid out . But only superficially. On closer inspection there were many small maintenance problems. We were there at the end of the season so perhaps the maintenance will be done over the winter. Cleanliness was a problem with the rooms either not being cleaned at all or only skimmed over. When we complained to the owner we were told you just can’t get the staff. Again it was the end of season so maybe staff were just complacent. The hotel is in a fabulous location although the roads to get there are very narrow and twisty. As I said this hotel has the potential to be excellent if only maintenance and cleaning and management were better.

The location is really lovely although a bit isolated. Really nice that it has a restaurant and bar on the premises. Room was spacious and very clean. Would definitely stay there again

Rooms were large, clean, comfortable. Staff were great, helpful and polite. Meals were tasty, view was super (i guess we were lucky with the weather) Only downside, which is not the hotel's fault, it seems to be in a dead zone for 4G/3G or even a phone signal.

Booked Deluxe room which it definitely was not. Bathroom toilet seat disgusting, shower parts missing/broken. Broken tiles throughout the apartment. Dirty dusty floor.lights not working none of the radiators in the room including the bathroom towel rail not working. Mould on bathroom Ceiling. When we complained we were asked if we had a dog with us (so be aware if you do!!) When we said no we were told they must have got us mixed up with someone else. We were given an alternate room which was a little bigger with same problems as above. The only positive was the view from the hotel. All in all extremely bad experience and no offer of compensation which we feel was warranted. Definitely won't recommend or be back to this hotel in future. Of note the staff in the restaurant were polite and helpful.

The location is amazing, right on the beach with fab views of Ayrshire, and the islands of Ailsa Craig and Plada. Seals and otters can be seen on the rocks within 500 metres of the hotel. It is a very peaceful location in the village of Kildonan which has a beautiful and rugged long seafront with sandy beaches. The hotel lobby, bar and restaurant are are very nice, food and service very good. The unfortunate thing about this hotel is that it is currently undergoing a transformation with some of the rooms being made into luxury apartments which seems to be a very long process. This has resulted in some of the external walls and windows being altered with holes and cables hanging which doesn't give a good first impression. The drive to the hotel brings you to the rear of the property and the first thing that meets the eye is a row of industrial wheelie bins, building materials and a removed air conditioning or cooling unit which is standing rusting away. Inside there seems to be a lack of maintenance to simple things like door handles, toilet roll holders, cables sticking out of the walls where a TV has been removed etc. The large picture window in the bar/lounge looks onto the amazing vies, but priority has been given to the pool table which seems a complete waste when the views from this hotel are its main draw and selling point. There is a sheltered outside eating are, unfortunately shared with the smoking area. Just needs a bit more thought, planning and maintenance.

Great position and sea views at the southern tip of Arran. Popular bar overlooking the coast. The owner is in the process of upgrading the accommodation and number of rooms.

Has it all.Comfort,good food and a view to die for

This hotel is friendly and well run by knowledgeable helpful and attentive staff. The outlook is excellent.So wonderfully photogenic.We have stayed in many places on this Island and this Hotel is and will be our first choice

Really liked the location and views, outdoor seating. Family room we had was great no complaints, food was pleasant. Bit of a wait to be served both at evening and breakfast. Wasn’t busy but didn’t put us off. Large pool table right in front of window rather than seating Which would have been a much better idea. Great for dogs but hit with charge for them on checkout. Bit p..d off as no where on webpage or checkout does this charge appear!!!! Did query but was assured it was there. Would have been nice if we were asked if we enjoyed our stay rather than “£10 charge for dogs” which is reasonable but would like to know up front. Would definitely go back if just for views and room location but could be great with few tweaks Kildonan.. move the pool table and put extra charges on web site.

Location is great right by the beach at Kildonan. Room a good size with French door to patio with sun loungers which we used due to the fab weather! Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice. Photos on the website don't do the place justice

Looks good and a great location

A lot of thought has gone into the interior design but the standard that it has been maintainted to is impacting on this. the staff are great but my room was not cleaned as i would exoect. the wifi was non existent in my room.it would not take much to correct some of the issues. the views are great and the island is wonderful. Overall we enjoyed our stay and despite the issues we would say again.

The room was too small (no room for luggage) - bed/linens/pillows ancient and uncomfortable - the sea view was marred by roof of adjoining building. The restaurant/bar was great though with good food and a lovely view of the sea/beach.

We had a lovely stay . Our room was large and had a small area to sit out in . The hotel is a little shabby but the staff are wonderful .

Awesome views and super friendly service!

Fantastic location! Great service the whole time. We brought our boxer dog and he was allowed in the room and could come for meals if we wanted him to. The location is superb for photographs and wildlife (if you catch them!) the outdoor seating area was great for a drink after a long day's walk and the beach was on the doorstop for the dog. We ate in the restaurant and the portions were huge! Would've like a bit more fish on the menu for the main meals but overall really nice. Great size room for taking the dog. Would visit again if we returned.

Dogtastic!

We enjoyed our stay at Kildonan. The staff were friendly and the food was good - except the porridge - which was a bit claggy. The kippers were lovely, however, as was the full English breakfast. The room was tidy - although the shower wasn't so good. It was great that we could take our dog and she had a wonderful time on the beach. There are some lovely art works in the hotel, tasteful, well placed pieces, vases, sculptures etc..
