"WARNING: only hotel in the world with a 16:00 check in. If you can’t be bothered to staff the hotel at least leave a key box like every other hotel. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to waste waiting for 16:00 so checked into the Beachfront hotel in town for the same price and standard check in. "

"There was parking outside every unit for 1 vehicle. The rooms were fresh and provided the needed towels and blankets. Extra pillows and blankets in the room too. The owner Simon went above and beyond when we arrived, during a power cut (Narly storm chased us into Hokitika). He made sure we knew what was open for food and that we had a candle for a room until the power came back on."

"The room was very comfortable. Although we didn’t read the check in instructions and reached the accommodation after the specified check in time, managed to find the owner and check in. Highly recommend if anyone is looking for an accommodation at Hokitika!"

"OK for a short stay. Very small rooms if traveling with suitcases and no lifts to our floor which meant humping very large suitcases up long stairs. No in room safe which is odd given most people are on the road. Good location for local amenities albeit very small town, but wet good supermarket close and at least two reasonable bars/diners. Not sure if we booked room with a sea view but didn’t have one. So worth checking that."

"Loved the aesthetic of the log cabin chalet, and the size and layout were great. Many lightbulbs out though, and it's showing a lot of wear."

"We loved our stay in the Blackhouse Cottage, and wished we could have stayed longer. It was gorgeously appointed and well set out. The beds were super comfortable and we were snug and warm in the cold. So cozy and the perfect place to unwind and relax. We would stay here again and again. "

"We stayed w nights in the miners cottage and it was absolutely superb for our needs. Had our kids visit and play cards one evening and the other night we just blobbed out. Nice and quiet, and well appointed. The cottage had everything we needed and the meal we had in the bar after 6 hours driving was damned good. The service was fab and the staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. Will happily stay there again."
