"Probably the strangest hotel I've ever stayed at. If White Lotus and The Shining were merged into a singular hotel, that's this place.
First, you're stopped at a security checkpoint driving up. It takes five minutes to confirm you're on their "list." You will have to redo this every single time you leave or return.
The water in the rooms was brownish. A note in the room said this was a temporary issue, but reading other reviews indicates this has been a 2 YEAR PROBLEM. Even if the water was running, both the bathtub and the sink were closed off in my room. I had to brush my teeth in the shower.
And the hotel staff...stiff, upright, zero personality. They walked and talked as if robots. And I didn't see a single other guest. Just these animatronic workers. Honestly, if I discover the hotel is a cult headquarters it would make more sense than whatever was actually going on.
But the grilled tomatoes at breakfast were good."
"This is a great hotel. Beautiful design and thoughtfully decorated with loads of amenities. Loved the spacious room with the balcony, great views of distant mountains. The breakfast was wonderful and we much enjoyed the dinner as well. This is a truly professional operation with helpful and kind staff that really tried to ensure we had the best stay possible. Unfortunately there was an issue with the water main which wasn't fixed until 8pm or so, and the water pressure was so low we couldn't shower in the evening, rather had to wait until the next morning. When it worked it was great, though..."
"Stayed as a solo female traveler and felt very safe in this hotel, which is also super clean with super nice staff. I had dinner there too, and the food was pretty good."
"We stayed at the Karoo Art Hotel for one night on our way to Cape Town. It is a wonderfully restored hotel in keeping with its character. The bed was very comfortable and our room spacious. We had dinner and breakfast there and both were very good, we would definitely return if ever in South Africa. It was nice to safely be able to walk around the town."
"The best holiday we have ever had. The safari ranger/guide (called Abiri) was perfect and made the whole experience magical for the whole family. Highly recommend."
"We had a very enjoyable stay for three nights. The hosts were fabulous. They gave us great ideas for activities in the area given the recent floods, and provided areas of interest as we headed east on the garden route as well.
My family of four stayed in the cottage, which was perfect for us."
"We were in a small room but had a lovely large patio with seating. Everything was modern, clean and well maintained. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The food in the restaurant was also excellent.
It was a top notch stay!"
