Still quirky cool but needs love

A couple of years ago I stayed here and had a great experience—especially for the money. This time was a bit disappointing. The place needs a little love to be returned back to its potential and to be worthy of an 8+ rating. The TV didn’t really work, there was a sizable area of paint missing in the bathroom, the couch was kind of dirty and worn, and I was getting bit by something in the room. Also, no real window to the outside world. Be sure to ask for that if you stay there. The owner I met last time seems to have left charge of the place to others. Or maybe it’s under different management. Anyway, I’d love to see this place restored back to its quirky and fun potential.

Friendly, helpful hoteliers make life easy!

The hotel location is very convenient, between the old town and the business precinct, near the river. Good restaurants nearby. But the best thing about the hotel is the helpfulness of the managers. They arranged our visits to the orangutans and the national park, taking us to places that we would not have otherwise known about. They were knowledgeable about the city and its history, as well as having useful contacts in the tourist trade. Big shout out for Jackie and Jolin, who made our stay so memorable.

Kuching marathon stay

It was a perfect spot for the Kuching Marathon. The breakfast was really yummy. Very hospitable.

Terrible

Avoid this hotel - they may lose your booking! I booked this hotel several days before going on Hotels.com and received a confirmation of my booking. However, when I arrived at the hotel they were full - overbooked! Staff (Mr Dalis) were very rude and unhelpful in assisting me. It was late evening and due to the city marathon the next day it was difficult and costly for me to find another hotel. How can a hotel such as this not have even a basic understanding of how online booking sites work...

Good but needs improvement

Staff gave great service and were very helpful. Big thanks. Room good size and comfortable. More care needed to look after basic room amenities (e.g. all lights and water-taps not working, noisy aircon, etc). Housekeeping could be less sloppy and more consistent and also please give rooms a very good clean.

Kielitaitoinen henkilökunta. Huoneet mukavat, hyvät sängyt, petivaatteet ja runsaasti tyynyjä. TVssä myös englanninkielisiä kanavia. Hotellin vieressä iso rakennustyömaa.

Very friendly staffs

Room and hotel are actually clean, however I feel they need to touch up certain area like the cleanliness of the sofa, TV reception (total not viewable for my 2 nights stay in the 2 rooms I have booked) makeup room service are really poor. However customer service from the receptionist to the breakfast staffs are great, always very cheerful and friendly. Nothing are too troublesome for them when approach.

A very individual and stylish hotel

The Batik Boutique hotel is very well located within a 5 minute walk to the riverside and all the main points of interest in Kuching. It is comfortable and stylish, but its main recommendation is the staff who are all so helpful and keen to make your stay a good one.

Well it's ABOUT time!

Although an avid traveller, I rarely leave feedback, which is a tad unfair I must admit. That said, when I do leave feedback it was either an exceptional or horrible experience. In this case, it was absolutely EXCEPTIONAL. The entire staff from the owner, Jackie to the chef and front staff (special shout-out to Jo-lynn and Sue) made me feel like a Rajah. In all my travels around the globe, I can't say that a hotel review lives up to the hype, but the Batik Boutique does so. I was given so many valuable tips of where to dine, where to shop, where to explore and what to avoid that I truly felt like one of the family. The hotel is located in an extremely convenient spot in downtown Kuching that all of the sights are easily walkable or a cab is never far away to the outlying areas. I made a promise that I will be back and I will. All the best to this wonderful hotel and great team!! Take care my friends and I will cherish the memories.

Excellent Hotel!

Can’t say enough about the staff at this hotel! They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. The owner Jackie will tell you everything you could possibly want to know about Kuching, from where to eat and where to visit to where you should go next! They helped me plan every aspect of my trip, which was very much appreciated. The rooms were huge and comfortable with all the amenities you need...toiletries, safe, refrigerator, air-con, iron/ironing board. Breakfast was delicious and the welcome gift of rice wine and cake was amazing! Great location and quiet room. One of the best hotel stays of my life and I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else in Kuching!

They go the extra mile...

Very late arrival, but warm friendly greeting on arrival. This set the tone for our stay. Jackie and her team volunteered really good advice on trips and especially on dining options. They changed our room set up with asking, because they could tell it didn't quite work for us. And most memorably they shared in our delight and baked a celebratory cake when our son learnt he had been awarded a first class masters degree. They definitely go the extra mile. Thanks

Great location with its own character

The Batik Boutique is no Hilton or Riverside 5 star hotel but it has a unique charm yet still provides comfortable rooms and excellent personalised service. This from the outset was our attraction to the much smaller Batik Boutique hotel Our king size bed was very comfortable and for us the air conditioning was essential for a good night's sleep. The room was spacious and the bathroom also expansive with a free standing marble bath and over size shower alcove. Mood lighting helped make the room even more appealing. A decent size flat screen TV with satellite service at no extra cost was welcome. Our tariff included breakfast comprising a selection of cereals and a choice of cooked breakfast all recommended. All the staff were more than just friendly and helped with directions and tips on what to see and where to go in Kuching. Our stay started at check-in with complimentary rice wine and a sample of Kuching's famous layer cake. A nice surprise. The staff were happy to book tours, arrange taxis etc and then offer free transfer to the airport at the end of our stay. We were even able to arrange a later check-out (3pm rather than noon) with the Hotel refusing our offer to pay a reasonable extra charge. Very accommodating. A highly recommended hotel. We would book again when next in Kuching.

Wonderful experience in beautiful Kuching

A very special place - small boutique hotel, with comfortable and well-decorated rooms (nice bathrooms as well), and wonderful staff. Staff is very friendly and helpful (they even prepared a packed lunch for us for free for a day trip to Kubah NP). Good breakfasts (I recommend the banjo sandwich). Great advice about the local area as well. I can't wait to go back to Kuching and stay at the Batik!

Nice hotel close to center of Kuching

The hotel is a nice property located right in the heart of Kuching. The staff is incredible and will do everything possible to make ones stay pleasant. They booked a day trip to see the orangutans and to go river kayaking. They allowed us to use an open room late in the day to shower and freshen up as we had an evening flight out of town. The breakfast was tasty and the Swedish restaurant adjacent to the hotel was excellent. The rooms themselves were pleasant, very open, and the rain showers in the bathrooms were great.

Ne ratez pas ce petit hotel.

Le type d'hotel qu'on aimerait trouver un peu partout. Un petit hotel de charme, à la déco recherchée. Tout est conçu pour notre confort. Mais surtout une mention spéciale pour l'accueil, avec une équipe qui vous considère comme leur hôte, toujours disponible et vous aide à organiser votre séjour et vos excursions nature à un coût optimal. Très propre et bien situé dans le centre ville.

The room was very unique....reason why I choose. Everything else was good.....only breakfast very limited......but service given to fetch from & to airport was a thumbs up. Easy excess to anywhere by taxi.....
