Fabulous stay in Douro region

This was a beautiful 17th century house with extensive gardens. The pool was surrounded by lavender bushes and close to the dining area/patio area. Bedrooms were very comfortable and classically decorated. The owners Ana Maria and Antonio were most gracious - they offered us wine and hors d'oevres when we arrived. The evening meal was spectacular and paired with wines. Breakfast was excellent. We drove to Pinhao to take a 2 hour boat trip on river Douro.

The property and staff were lovely, very attentive. Great hospitality and superb breakfast. The rooms were charming, clean and interesting but somewhat lacking in some basics like full sized beds, shampoo, lotions etc. Overall, a terrific place to stay and close to the top Douro wine region.

It was a special experience staying in such a historic home. The whole place is beautifully decorated and the hosts were helpful with their tips. However, we would have appreciated having a kettle and tea and coffee facilities either in our room or in the sitting room that we were allocated. Whilst we really appreciated the beautiful breakfast that was offered in the morning, the whole place felt quite formal.
