"It was a nice resort, but needed some updating. The WiFi was pretty terrible and overall systems dated. You have to wear a watch like band to open your room door, but have to manually provide your room number and name for every drink or meal. Most bars ring you up every time you order a drink even if you are having several rounds. We like more adult style properties and this catered more to families and conventions. Also, the food was very average. They did have good bourbon selection in a few bars which is tough to find in the Caribbean. The private island was ok, but transport was not timely like they advertise. "

"The property is in a beautiful location. It overlooks the water. The patio was wonderful. Very relaxing. The rooms were spacious; the beds were comfortable. The AC kept us very comfortable. Although we really didn't need it at night. The cool ocean breezes were great at night. Furniture wa a little dated, but we didn't spend much time during the day at the apartment. We did lots of sightseeing and visiting the wonderful restaurants nearby. "

"This place looked quaint and cute in the photos, but was quite different in person. First of all, there are no windows in the front of the house - only shutters. So bugs, security, lack of AC were a concern. There was a fan but it was not working and no attempt was made to fix it when the host was notified. There was a smoke detector on the wall, which was open and lacking a battery. When I told the host about this, they said 'no one told me about this'. No accountability and no attempts to fix anything. The 'rainfall' shower head was rusty and a barely affixed addition. We had only enough hot water for 1 3 minute shower. The water pressure was extremely weak. The bed was very firm. The full size fridge was nice and coffee was provided, but it was awkward to use the garbage bin because of the lack of windows thing. There were bugs crawling in the kitchen so we didn't use it much. Beach chairs and towels were provided, along with a very dirty cooler bag. We could hear every word of our neighbours. It has a lot of potential, but so many things were not disclosed/ were inaccurate. "

"Even the manuel gate was easy! It was exactly what I was looking for. If you want a more local feel, this is the neighborhood. The beach is literally 40 steps from your door!"

"Staff was great! Super detailed instructions for check in. Place was stocked well with beach toys, chairs, a wagon, and all you can think of. Lots of stuff for kids to do! Would definitely stay again! "

"We booked a 4-night stay at Calizo VIP Guest House, but only stayed 1 night because the conditions were unacceptable. The room was essentially a basement space — very damp, with visible condensation on the walls and a strong musty odor. I sent the owner photos showing what appeared to be mold and the excessive moisture, but we did not receive any refund directly from the property. The only refund we received was through Expedia. The environment felt unhealthy and uncomfortable, and we were unable to sleep due to the smell and dampness. We ended up relocating at our own expense to El Conquistador Resort, which was absolutely 1000x better — clean, properly ventilated, and exactly what we expected from a vacation stay. It is very disappointing that this property is labeled “VIP” on Expedia. Based on our experience, that designation is misleading. I would strongly encourage future travelers to ask detailed questions about the specific room location and ventilation before booking."
