  • I took this in March in Sintra, Portugal! It's at the fairy tale castle Pena Palace :). This is one of the lovely close-up views. It's is a Romanticist castle that stands on the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains. And undoubtedly one of the most iconic places in Portugal. And a dream come true to visit it! It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It is also used for state occasions by the President of the Portuguese Republic and other government officials. Thanks to Wikipedia for help ;).

This hotel was stunning from the moment we pulled in. The Palace was lovely to walk through, the gardens were beautiful and provided may photo opportunities, and our room was pretty and had a large wardrobe to store all our clothes. I do wish we had a bigger bed as one double bed for two people was quite squishy but that was the only thing I’d change. The food in their dining room was excellent, we felt so spoiled with endless options and nothing on their menu that disappointed. Their staff were knowledgeable, happy to make recommendations of where to visit in the area and treated us like royalty from the moment they opened the doors to welcome us in.

A Marvelous

This was our second stay with Palacio de Seteais. Our first stay was 47 years ago . We always remembered the fabulous time we had and decide one day we would come back and we did! The staff was as attentive as I remembered and they went out of their way to make us feel at home.

This is a unique property. In history, kings and queens stayed on site. The building is still a very impressive structure. The good...the front staff is wonderful. The breakfast is very good. The bad... The property is tired and BADLY needs a refresh. Important...the hotel is on a one-way road at the top of a mountain. A cab ride to town takes a half hour. The one way road circles the entire mountain before it turns back to town. You can walk down the one way road to town in about the same time...but the walk back up the mountain requires mountain goat DNA. Walk down and take a cab up.

Great choice in Sintra

The location is a true palace, feels like a jump is history. Staying there is like staying in a museum. Everything is well kept (needs some renovation, but they are undergoing). Beautiful and fresh flowers, amazing breakfast, and authentic service only adds up to the experience. Only downside aspect, but it’s not the hotels fault, is driving to and from Sintra’s main attractions, as roads and viability aren’t greatly organized.

The service is above and beyond a five star hotel experience. They are so attentive, so accommodating and excellent at keeping you well informed of what spots to visit, eat at, etc. We were on our honeymoon here and the staff had prepared such thoughtful champagne, port wine already decanted (tasted at least 10 years), fresh fruit, and a filled nespresso machine. I was even touched by their detail of providing us with one smaller pair of slippers and one bigger for my husband, and they are SO cute! We regretted not staying there longer as we left at 8am for our tour. They boxed up our breakfast but the breakfast buffet looked glorious from a slight peek. I absolutely will not forget the service of this restaurant as it made it an unforgettable experience. Thank you to the tall slender gentleman that checked us in (sorry I forgot your name but I hope you get credits for this review). You're the best!

A nice splurge!

When you stay at a castle or palace in Europe, you want to feel the history. This palace gives you a great feel! Room is wonderfully comfortable, and after you arrive and clean up, you can stroll the well-apointed and preserved rooms and hallways. We did not try the restaurant for dinner as we wanted to try places in town, but the breakfast was stellar. When booking here and driving, you may want to get directions from the hotel if you're driving in at night as the local streets can be a bit challenging to navigate and are one-way, but no biggie.
