Bear Mountain Lodge

Bear Mountain Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"The lodge was awesome! We wish we would have had time to stay longer to use all the fun and available amenities. To get to the lodge is the only drawback. The long, unpaved road was not desirable with a few potholes to maneuver. This is not a lodge issue directly, but county/state maintenance problem. When you get to the property, the drive is nice asphalt for 2 minutes up to the buildings. We arrived around 8 pm and were immediately met by Josh to welcome us and get us to our room. We stayed in the black bear room just off the entrance, which made it very convenient. The room was very neat and cozy. The bathroom was roomy and I thoroughly enjoyed the shower. The bed was a little soft for our preference, but we still slept fine. Josh showed us the open kitchen and living areas to be enjoyed by the guests. The kitchen island was very nice and two refrigerators were available for all. We walked around inside briefly before going to bed around 9 pm, by which time the entire lodge was quiet. By hitting the road early, we missed using so many things that would have made the stay even better. The view out back was picturesque. Josh made sure we had coffee for the road, and we met the free-roaming chickens and rooster before driving away. I highly recommend this place for those willing to get away from the big city. It’s definitely worth the drive!!"

Machias River Inn

10/10 Excellent
"We loved this place, not least because our River View room gave us a beautiful outlook. We even saw a seal swimming past. The two beds were big and comfy, the room had been renovated and a real person on reception made a nice change. I strongly recommend this place."

The Inn on the Wharf

The Inn on the Wharf

8/10 Good
"Lubec is lovely - the easternmost village in the United States. Lovely views from the room over the sound to Canadian islands, and you can drive across on a single-lane bridge. Almost no commercial razzmatazz unlike much of coastal Maine. The Inn on the Wharf and attached restaurant was fine. Other reviews have rightly noted that the restaurant can be loud, and service is pretty slow. For once, decent coffee, both in the restaurant and in the rooms. Slight minus: bath plug stuck on half-closed, could not close properly. The only two other restaurants in the village were only open Thur-Sun. A nice diner, Two Spruces is 5 miles away. Otherwise nothing. Would happily go again."
