The historic Manhattan Beach Pier has been an icon of this beachfront community since 1920. It was built 7 years after a major storm destroyed the "Old Iron Pier" that preceded it. The older pier was equipped with a propeller system to generate electricity from waves.

Today, the spot is great for surfing, sunsets and playing in the surf break.

The first time I saw the current pier was in the original movIe "Point Break". Keanu Reeve's character purchases a surfboard from shop on the pier.
