"Great location in centre of town with parking around the back. Be prepared for signs on approach suggesting you cannot drive down high street. It is only way in and as well as paying £12 for 24hr there is no direct access to the hotel so you have to carry bags and walk up narrow lane to get to the front. Not great with elderly or disabled guests although there is drop off bay out front. Very historic building with lots of original features including lots of steps with no sign of a lift. Booked...

"This is a lovely little pub the grounds are well kept but unfortunately our bathroom was extremely damp and the smell was unbearable, we called reception and they came and sprayed in there but there was definitely an underlying issue going on as there was a big damp patch on the ceiling, there was also lots of cobwebs in the bedroom, the shower had very little power, the good points are the carpet was lovely and soft, the tv had a good signal, there was a mini fridge and tea & coffee making...

"It was short walk from the train station and like 50 minutes from London. The restaurant in the hotel is pretty good and the bus to colchester city center is pretty good. The hotel was clean and check out was pretty easy as well."

"This is not a place to stay for light or sensitive sleepers. It is across the road from the town's clocktower which strikes every hour and chimes every quarter right through the night. The hotel clearly recognises the problem because it leaves earplugs, which are ineffective, by the bedside. We had booked for two nights but left after one because we couldn't bear another sleepless night. The manageress was entirely unsympathetic and certainly wouldn't entertain a refund. "Extremely uncomfortable sleep - tiny double bed for 2 people and there was an old creaky, loud fan and the room was unbearably hot even with the fan on all night and windows open. Give people a bigger bed and buy new modern quiet fans!"
