6/10
We had previously stayed at the Hyatt Ziva in Cancun, and absolutely loved it. The Rose Hall location was nice, but definitely didn’t live up to our experience in Cancun.
The Zilara buildings are in need of update/maintenance, but were generally clean and the AC worked well. The pools were clean and not overly crowded except for the swim up bar area - a birthday party seemed to occupy that section of the pool for several days.
Sand on the beach was well maintained- seaweed was minimal and removed each morning; a little rocky in the water.
Food was generally disappointing. Dinner menu at Urban Heat looked amazing but both meat and seafood were completely overcooked and underseasoned. Fuzion was the best option, and Petit Pariz and DeRosa were both decent. Highlights were the Sous Vide chicken, duck, and pad thai. The Jamaican food festival was also good with many options. Many of those items (fried fish, chicken, rice and beans) were also available at the Calypzo outdoor lunch buffet. Breakfast buffet at Choices was crowded with kids, so we chose Urban Heat most mornings which offered both a la carte and a small buffet. The Jerk hut had good chicken and pork. The Ziva coffee and piano bars were better than Zilara options. Food at Union Jack wasn't very good and service was slow.
Activities were disappointing relative to Ziva Cancun. Very few options other than dancing, and most were not on schedule.
Overall a decent resort with friendly staff, ut not likely to go back.
