"Authentic Japanese style Hotel with Onsen. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms very roomy (compared to city hotels in Tokyo, Osaka etc). Hotel is definitely on the older side. The best part was the view over the River! Gorgeous!"

"A small but lovely hot spring onsite. Price was very reasonable. Free breakfast was nice. Organic vegetables was a nice touch. Room was serviceable but similar to a business hotel in size. One nice touch was tge large table and bench. Nice for foreigners that there were English instructions throughout hotel. Air conditioning, and toilet had English. Iida is a lovely city, I particularly like the apple Street. It must be lovely in apple season. And senjojiki cirque is only 25 mins drive away. Would definitely recommend."

"the room was clean and enough space for 2. they brought our luggage up the 3rd floor walkup. the slight inconvenience was the ladies rooms were on the 2nd floor. the food was decent and the staff was very nice. coffee and tea were complimentary and was nice to have in the morning and evenings. "

"The location is very convenient, just about a 7-minute walk to both the bus stop and train station, making it easy to get around or to go to Magome. It’s 20 minutes by taxi or bus to Magome. We had to use this hotel since we did Nakasendo Trail next day , starting in Magome. The neighborhood itself is quiet, safe, and has a relaxing atmosphere—great for unwinding after a day of exploring. One thing to keep in mind is that there are limited dining options open nearby in the evening, so it’s best to plan ahead by making reservations or arranging meals through the hotel. The hotel does not provide assistance on making outside restaurants reservations. Also, the check in time is 4:00 pm,but they helped us put our 2 carry-ons inside of the room,but we couldn’t access. The room was clean and well-maintained, with fresh, crisp linens and spotless towels, though they were a bit on the thinner side. The bedding follows a more traditional Japanese style—firmer mattress and pillows—which may not suit everyone’s preference, especially if you’re used to softer options. Shoes are removed at the main entrance/lobby. Yukata is provided inside of the room to be used at the public baths. The breakfast was included, but didn’t seem to have a wide variety of options, so we skipped it. While the overall stay was comfortable and peaceful, the price felt slightly high compared to the amenities provided. That said, the cleanliness, location, and calm surroundings still made it a pleasant experience."

"The ryokan has excellent breakfast and dinner buffets, ping pong, billiards, karaoke, game room, manga library, massage chairs, and of course indoor and outdoor onsens. "

"We booked the triple bedroom and the room is huge. Beds were comfortable. There were 3 onsen in the hotel, pretty good but a little old. In fact this hotel feels a little old but overall it is still good, a traditional Japanese ryokan feel. The checking in was a little inefficient as we waited for a while until our turn to be brought to the room. Breakfast was a little chaotic, we were told that the breakfast buffet start at 650am-8am but at 7+am we were still queueing for table. Feel too early and being rushed to start the day. They have shuttle bus from the train station to the hotel, journey just 1-2 mins. Else it is also walkable like 5 mins. "

"What a great find! Everything was outstanding: from check in to check out: super friendly and helpful staff, spotless place, very well organised, great food, plentiful breakfast,… I wish I had booked for an extra night. The whole family loved it!"

"The BOSENKAN was a great experience. We really enjoyed the Onsen, even though it was our very first experience. The food was traditional, and there were a lot of new tastes for us which was nice. We were surprised by the large number of non-native workers there were. It did make understanding them difficult, and we felt it was less authentic. But we still enjoyed our stay! We will miss Mizuki-chan!"
