"Fantastic location and free parking right on the Quayside. Hotel rooms are rather tired and too warm (mid-Sept) with no way of regulating the temperature. Bathrooms are equally dated - you don’t expect a shower over the bath with a flimsy shower curtain at this level. You just feel a major refurb is due…"

"Avoid like the plague. This place costs an unjustifiable fortune, probably because of the location which is central, but it is a glorified travelodge at best. Nowhere near 4-star quality in any respect, despite claiming to be. Basic rooms with basic facilities. The entrance is nothing more than a grimy lobby with lifts, (4-star!) when I arrived back at 2215 I was confronted aggressively by a bouncer who demanded my details and room number, when I refused to give these details I was followed...

"Great hotel for the great North Run. Easy parking and access/departure even with the road closures. Staff excellent. Made a big deal about the GNR with a table set up with drinks, snacks, treats for runners and offered use of a shower room after the event. Very thoughtful. Room beautifully designed - newly refurbished. Bathroom shower hose loose/leaking at top and bottom and toilet cistern ran continuously. Bathroom detail cleaning could have been a little better but good overall....
